IAintShootinMis<p>Man, <a href="https://digitaldarkage.cc/tags/ssh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ssh</span></a> never ceases to amaze me. </p><p>Just learned (after 15years on <a href="https://digitaldarkage.cc/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a>) that you can execute a command on a remote host using the ' ' convention. </p><p>E.g.; ssh root@host 'date' will 1) start a connection, 2) execute date on the remote host 3) return the output of date 4) and finally close the connection. </p><p>Even better you can pipe things to the command. So echo "dog" | ssh root@1.x.x.x 'wall' will send the word "dog" to all logged in users. </p><p>I should have assumed something like this exists</p>

I offered to set them up with Linux, which I can support. They all switched to <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a>. They have been on it for almost 15 years. I rarely get calls for help. When I upgrade versions, I upgrade them as well after a while.</p>
Robby<p>Finally pulling the plug on Adobe. Long overdue. I was hanging on for no good reason. People often say that you get what you pay for. I didn't pay a cent for either of the Linux distros I've used and I enjoy them far more than any OS I've ever actually purchased.</p>
My Actual Brain<p>I just helped my Dad setup his new Windows desktop. I wanted him to try Linux, but the repair shop guy spooked him out of it.</p><p>I found a decent computer for him and I think he was happy to get a new computer his old one was really old.</p><p>Anyway, we spent like an hour setting it up. It will forever be in my collection. This weekend I was flipping through it - wow, what a great book. It's also crazy how much Linux has grown over the years. As much as I reminice over those old days, I definitely do not miss manually configuring my xfree86 config file! 🤣</p>

This means I will have to edit $prefix/share/alsa/alsa.conf and replace e.g. s/card 0/card 1/ </p><p>OH and Lord have mercy if you didn't create a group called audio, or else nothing that uses alsalib will work.</p><p>This is hardly criminal behavior FWIW, just lacking quality controls.</p>

nixCraft 🐧<p>You can quickly toggle between your two most recent directories with ‘cd -‘:</p><p>If you find yourself frequently jumping back and forth between two directories, stop typing out long paths repeatedly! Simply use the command:<br>cd -</p><p>This command will take you to the directory you were in just before your current one. Executing it again will take you back.
