I used to keep a to-do list and I stopped. I used to use Workflowy and Remember the Milk for lists (both okay). But now, my email inbox is my to-do list for essential things. I'll write a tiny, brief to-do list on paper if there's a couple things I need to remember or do that day, but that's it. I don't keep a running one anymore. Minoru
Another GTD insight I'd like to write down is daily review.

Perhaps it's in the book and I missed it when I skimmed years ago, but I recently found that I'm far more relaxed if I glance through my lists first thing in the morning. This takes between 10 and 30 minutes and includes:

processing yesterday's journal (which is my most important inbox);

checking today's calendar and glancing through my "waiting for" list;

going through projects, deactivating/abandoning the ones that I don't plan to work on for at least a week; re-activating the ones that suddenly got important again; and ensuring there are next actions for the active ones;

picking a handful of projects that I'll concentrate on, and marking a few of their next actions as "must do today";

going through my assorted next actions (the ones that aren't tied to any project) and turning some into "must do" as well, to prevent them from languishing;

taking the final look at "must dos" to avoid overtaxing myself.

I started doing this because with weekly reviews alone I sometimes felt mid-week that I've got too much stuff to do. Other times I felt like I'm following an outdated plan. Doing some of the "low-level" weekly review steps every day helps me course-correct more quickly, improving my mood (and willingness to stick with the system).

As a side effect, my weekly review also takes less than 30 minutes now, because it's just two steps: process lesser inboxes and going through the triggers list. (I don't implement the higher horizons yet.)

#GettingThingsDone #GTD

Minoru
One benefit of implementing GTD using Markdown files rather than paper is that I can easily re-shuffle my triggers list when it gets too familiar. I find that the list is more effective when it feels "new", "surprising" even.

#GettingThingsDone #GTD
