I hate AM/PM time format so much. It's so endlessly inferior, prone to confusion, and just adds more buttons to the user interface.

Yet my #NextCloud web interface won't allow me to change to 24H format for my calendar :shiba_angry:

At least this isn't a problem on my phone where I got #Fossify Calendar, which is pretty good and customizable

I was a bit slow on this one, but I finally disabled Google Maps on my phone! I've been using Organic Maps (organicmaps.app/) for a little while now and I've had a great experience. I just have two issues:

1) Unless I download Organic Maps from the Google Play Store, I can't use it with Android Auto when I'm in a car. I want to disconnect from Google, so this is not ideal.
2) It seems like @organicmaps is the official Mastodon account, but they don't have their website verified.

It only took a few minutes to copy the places I had saved on Google Maps into a note in Notes (fossify.org/). As usual, I'm finding that plain text notes are exactly what I need and give me a better experience than these bloated corporate apps.

organicmaps.appOrganic Maps: Offline Hike, Bike, Trails and NavigationFast detailed offline maps for travelers, tourists, drivers, hikers and cyclists created by MapsWithMe (Maps.Me) app founders.

Fossify is an open-source mobile app initiative aimed at being private and community-driven. It builds on the SimpleMobileTools project, which is no longer maintained. Fossify offers essential apps like Calendar, Contacts, File Manager, Gallery, and Messages.

The initiative promises open-source and ad-free benefits, promoting privacy and community involvement amid growing concerns about data security and corporate surveillance. However, there are questions about why SimpleMobileTools is no longer maintained and whether Fossify has a different agenda or is genuinely supporting the community. The sustainability of Fossify's model is also in question, as open-source projects often struggle without proper funding. There's curiosity about their funding, ownership structure, potential hidden motives from investors, and how they will maintain updates and security fixes.

Concerns about privacy arise despite the claim that Fossify enhances lives without invading privacy. It’s noted that just being open-source doesn’t guarantee security. The mention of hashtags like #unplugtrump suggests possible political leanings or targeted communities, raising questions about whether Fossify has broader agendas beyond providing tools.

Competition from major tech companies also raises red flags, as it's surprising an open-source project could compete with giants like Google and Apple without intervention from these companies. The community aspect of Fossify is emphasized but poses risks of infighting or lack of direction if not well-managed. Questions about their financial sustainability arise due to the ad-free model, considering potential alternative monetization strategies.

Overall, while Fossify presents a vision of community-driven, privacy-focused technology, there are underlying motives and practicalities that need further investigation to ensure they deliver on their promises without hidden catches. #fossify #communitydriven #opensource #privacy #adfree

I tried a couple of replacement app launchers on my #Android phone, like #Fossify #Launcher fossify.org from F-Droid.

But I have a problem: a few times a day, the home screen will freeze up! I have to force stop the launcher app to get it working again (which is tricky because I can't use the launcher to do it).

Doesn't happen with the stock Pixel Launcher, only third-party launchers.

Anybody got any ideas how to fix this?

I've got installed on my phone and have deleted ! Again, having never saved passwords or preserved sessions, cookies, etc. made this so easy. I also had already started keeping my bookmarks in a text file on Notes (fossify.org/ or available on ), so those were no issue either. It's crazy how few note applications for Android allow you to just write notes as plain text files that you can copy to a computer.

I did notice that F-Droid warns the upstream code is not entirely free, and I don't know the specific details of that, but almost anything is better than letting sell my data.

I've been curious about the Duoqin F22 (non-pro) for a while, but was hesitant to try it as I had already experimented with several, let's say "non-traditional" phones, and kept going back to my also not traditional Unihertz Jelly Star, which I've been using as my daily phone for the past two years or so.

Well, curiosity got the better of me. So... hi? 😄
