Timothy Shortell<p>Testing some code for identity construction in evangelical news sources. (The text data is a small corpus, so this is mainly about getting the code right. I'm trying out ways to highlight the key identity terms that play a role in boundary work.)<br><a href="https://sciences.social/tags/Sociology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sociology</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/SocialPsychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SocialPsychology</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/DataAnalysis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DataAnalysis</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/DiscourseAnalysis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DiscourseAnalysis</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/Seaborn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Seaborn</span></a></p>
Timothy Shortell<p>I've been working since 9 this morning on materials for my data analysis &amp; visualization course. We're working on the text as data module (as we have for the past few weeks) and the next topic is latent structure modeling. I've been so absorbed in the code that I didn't realize how hungry I am now. Time to stop for dinner.<br><a href="https://sciences.social/tags/DataAnalysis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DataAnalysis</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/TextAnalysis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TextAnalysis</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/DiscourseAnalysis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DiscourseAnalysis</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/Sociology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sociology</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/ComputationalSocialScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ComputationalSocialScience</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a></p>
Timothy Shortell<p>In my data analysis and visualization class this week we're continuing to explore text as data. We'll be looking at code to scrape data from Wikipedia on a given topic. We harvest the text from the topic page main section and all of the internal links, and then iterate over the list of links scraping text from the main section of those pages.</p><p>As a visualization, I will show them how to use multidimensional scaling of token co-occurrences.</p><p><a href="https://sciences.social/tags/DataAnalysis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DataAnalysis</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/DiscourseAnalysis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DiscourseAnalysis</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/Sociology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sociology</span></a></p>
