Even small prefigurative practices lately in response to the surge of "AI" being used to further the worst parts of the internet - user tracking & commodification. Lately I have been finding a lot of these types of domains targeting users. Added them to my long-running public blocklist: github.com/RooneyMcNibNug/piho

Feel free to use it. I "dogfood" to ensure of no breakage. I don't want anything in return, but additions to the blocklist, issue reports, etc. are all welcome

We need to compost the vertical or the fluffy nasty

One of the problems of the current left/progressive paths is intolerance and dogmatic nastiness. This historically come from the hard vertical left in the 20th century. In the 21st century, it is more from our "fluffy" #fashionista crew and their pushing of hard #blocking for the last 20 years. It's a mess we always need to compost from the vertical or the fluffy nasty, what would non-nasty communication look like? It's a real and persistent issue in left/progressive spaces - a cycle where […]

The Seagull Knows: Notes on a Constipated Discipline

The opening moment of the workshop on Methodological Strategies for Real-Life Theorising was unintentionally profound. A story of a seagull crieing above the glass façade of the Blavatnik School of Government - a building that stands as a temple to the #deathcult of the last 40 years of #neoliberal culture. In hindsight, that seagull metaphor may have been the wisest participant at the event. The sessions that followed offered a painful reminder of just how entrenched and constipated […]

Messy language feeds back into our culture

The #blocking of current action, the constant stalls, confusion, and fragmentation, has a lot to do with the mess our language makes. And the deeper issue is how this messy language feeds back into our culture, which then loops back to make the language even murkier. It’s a feedback loop that clouds meaning, erodes trust, and paralyses collective action. The last 40 years of postmodernism and neo-liberalism have made this worse. #Postmodernism chipped away at the idea of shared reality, […]

@elazar

The current #blocking is it's way too hard to home host - to fix this we might need a law to force #IPS to make this #KISS so if we can't come up with a native geek solution we need a political one.

Then we have the problem of mobile SIM based devices not being on the internet due to being proxied through mobile networks - what path is best for this?

Finally, people feeling trapped on the #dotcons, but this might natural be changing a bit with the current #openweb #reboot?

More?

You are a bright guy, so you can hopefully see the issue with the reply:

If we can't talk about groups we can't talk, not understanding this is lying because It's what we do all the time, as "common sense".

With this in mind, the thread started with @julian taking a group thought and answering as an individual emotion, and carried on in this #blocking way. This is the normal mess, we do need to put more focus into composting :)

On being a prat in tech and social spaces (Yes, this is likely about you 😘)

From where I’m standing, a lot of people are being absolute prats when it comes to social and technological issues. That should be obvious… but clearly, it’s not. We’ve got two basic paths here: #Block everything you don’t like. Predictably, this just creates more prat-ish behaviour and pushes us all deeper into toxic bubbles. Ask questions. Grow. Listen. Respond. This reduces prat-ish behaviour — over time, maybe even composts it into something useful. Now, in the era of […]

The #OMN is not a product — It’s a path you walk

The #OMN project is #DIY, it only works if we build it together. This isn’t a startup pitch. It’s not a platform that magically appears out of nowhere to fix everything. It’s not a product to consume, it’s a path you walk. The direction is participatory, not passive. You don’t get to sit back and clap… or boo from the sidelines. If you do, the system won’t collapse, but it sure as hell won’t grow. Let’s be direct, there is no saviour coder, no NGO white knight, no […]

Can people engage with the #4opens process?

The #4opens is a completely obverse social restating of the #FOSS development model — but with a critical edition: The return of #openprocess, something we’ve lost over the last 10 years due to our reliance on encrypted chat. With this in mind, what is still #blocking the #openweb reboot? One thing I’ve learned from the last five years of the #openweb reboot is this: The #geekproblem is inadequate for the scale of change and challenge we face. Currently, the #geekproblem is a HARD […]

I kind of think that not putting content warnings on very violent stuff and then going 'it's our duty to look at these images' is not very productive here.

I mean, it's pretty easy to mute or block you if people don't feel the same way. Then none of your posts will get seen. At some point you might get server blocks or similar.

Also, it's not mandatory for me to read anybody's posts. Even if I mostly like what you post.

A sharp take

In the end, all social action happens through generalized talk, categories, metaphors, shorthand. That’s how language works. But we live in a cultural amnesia where this is forgotten, mistaken for “common sense.” The #OMN embraces this messy, human space, while the #geekproblem seeks rigid machine-like CONTROL. They’re often technically right, but socially intolerant. We, by contrast, are often technically wrong, but humanly right. What we need is a bridge between these approaches, […]

Building #OGB is about power without #powerpolitics

If we want the #openweb to survive and thrive, we need new forms of power, ones that can defend the community and challenge traditional power dynamics without falling into the traps of control, hierarchy, and co-option. The problem is clear: If we follow traditional power politics, which are built on control, manipulation, and exclusion, we will fail. We’ve seen this play out repeatedly, grassroots movements spark change, only to be then sold out and absorbed, neutralized by the […]

@mirano : I'll try to make it clear to you one more time.

My hatred is NOT directed at holocaust victims, on the contrary.

My hatred is primarily directed at the CURRENT maintaners of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, who DO NOT CARE about holocaust victims and even abuse them for hasbara (pro-Zionist propaganda). And while doing that, make a lot of disgraceful mistakes.

Auschwitz is AGAIN DEHUMANIZING WWII VICTIMS - 80 years later.

My hatred is also directed at naive people who believe it to be a good idea to amplify toots with pictures of Holocaust victims on the internet. It is self-satisfaction that distracts from the genocide taking place today, it does not bring any WWII victims back, and why should we only remember Auschwitz victims in such a way?

Would you like to be Facebooked after your death?

Note that you do not even toot under your own name, let alone publish your photo (which I do - who of us is a coward).

Information about Holocaust victims in a museum is a good idea - provided that visitors learn "Never again" - not limited to Jews.

Even publicly accessible databases are probably acceptable (of course info should be removed if survivors insist, and perhaps records of murdered people should be anonimized or hidden from unauthorized people if decendants ask for that).

More info about the blunders made by the *current* Auschwitz maintainers: infosec.exchange/@ErikvanStrat.

Earlier on I showed (partly overlapping) mistakes in infosec.exchange/@ErikvanStrat.

Next time, before you start accusing someone of being a nazi, a holocaust denier and/or of being an antisemite, please first do your homework, and/or respectfully ASK WHY people write things that you disagree with (mastodon.social/@mirano/114201 is NOT respectful).

Most of all sensible Mastodonts will definitely appreciate such behavior. It is okay to have different opinions, but trying to eliminate opponents will only lead to more polarization. If you can't stand someone, mute or block them.

Note: I seriously tried explaining my thoughts to Auschwitz boost-cattle (klikvee in Dutch) in the past, but most immediately reported me. That is why I now pre-emptively block all Auschwitz-Zionists-fans.

P.S. I've not blocked you yet, but I'm still considering to do so (feel free to block me, it will prevent that you see my toots).

24 January 1943 | A French Jewish girl, Doris Mireille Lewy, was born in Toulouse.

She arrived at Auschwitz on 1 May 1944 in a transport of 1,004 Jews deported from Drancy. She was among 865 of them murdered after selection in gas chambers.

Infosec ExchangeErik van Straten (@ErikvanStraten@infosec.exchange)Attached: 3 images @Shadedlady@mstdn.social : Part of the toots that the Auschwitz Council automatically broadcasts every three hours (if there are no "hickups" like last night) on multiple platforms include "human-friendly" (pre-captivity) photos. All those "human-friendly" pictures are of Jews only, preferably west-EU children: they invoke maximum "poor thing" feelings by naive viewers and get boosted most. You won't see *any* pictures of Roma or Sinti in the council's broadcasts. Of the messages with "human-friendly" photos, by far most people (all Jews) are missing in the public victims database at https://victims.auschwitz.org/victims. And if they have a record, their data is usually very incomplete and/or plain wrong. For example, https://victims.auschwitz.org/victims/237606 correctly states that Rebecca Vijevano was born on 25-01-1903, but fails to mention her place of birth (Amsterdam), her fate (murdered) and her profession (the last screenshot below states that she was born on 24-01-1903). The result of using multiple databases leads to the Auschwitz victims being mistreated and dehumanized AGAIN - 80 years later, by the Zionists "maintaining" the former concentration camp. See the screenshots below (tap Alt for info); it is a *DISGRACE* how these Holocaust victims are being abused for hasbara (without asking them or their decendants for permission to broadcast their pictures on the internet), while even that is being messed up by the Auschwitz Zionists. Avner Shalev does not care about holocaust victims, and neither does he care about Palestinian children. Previous toot in this series: https://infosec.exchange/@ErikvanStraten/114245671871962069. #Auschwitz #Hasbara #NeverAgainJewsOnly #FrancescaAlbaneseIsRight #StephenKaposIsRight #AvnerShalevIsWrong

It’s not easy, and it’s not as simple as clicking “sign up” and walking into a ready-made community

Q: Very interested in what you have to say. I've been trying to find a place in the #Fediverse that's not in thrall to big tech. How do I join up? #OMN #OpenWeb. Hungry, feed me! A: This is harder than it should be, and that itself is a telling sign of where we are right now. The #Fediverse is a fascinating, messy, and diverse space, but much of it is still trapped in the gravity of the #dotcons. What you’ll mostly find are either clones of corporate social media—Twitter-like, […]
