Someone carved the alphabet into a tree and let it deform for five years and made a font out of it: bjoernkarmann.dk/occlusion-gro

This image is very blurry because the object is very far away, because there's material between it and us, and because it's taken with long exposure (hours if I understand correctly).

Still, this is the best still image we have - in all previous pictures of the region the black hole was just one pixel.

Looking at shorter exposures allows figuring out the dynamic, but with worse resolution. This is the best guess scientists currently have for how it actually looks:

Exciting stuff! The EHT collaboration managed to take a radio image of Sagittarius A* - the black hole in the center of the Milky Way.

What we actually see in the picture is radiation caused by the material falling in, heating up due to friction until it glows brightly. The black hole itself is black, and the black spot in the middle is its silhouette hiding part of the hot zone.

Dukat: Can't it wait?

Got a recommendation for the SCP Foundation. It's an expansive wiki / collaborative writing project with various sci-fi themes.

I'm now reading through the anti-memetic division stories and they're awesome.
