A little for you.
My wondering was this: what other patterns could I make with these tiles?

@alisonkiddle you should be able to do full diagonals or squares.

@alisonkiddle Something I noticed is that the upper-left corner of the tile is different in each of the four orientations: black-black, black-white, white-black, or white-white. This means that once the tiles directly above and to the left of a square have been placed, there's just one matching orientation in that square. The result is that when tiling a rectangle like this one, the whole pattern is completely determined by the top and left edges.
