And now I've received an invitation to be on the PC for ACT in Florida... I love the ACT community but I'm not sure why I should contribute to an event that I can't possibly attend? They haven't mentioned anything about hybrid yet but part of me wants to not help out on principle? Idk what are other people doing?

@JadeMasterMath Every ACT since 2021 has been hybrid so hopefully that won't change. For sure I'm not going as long as it's in the USA with the orange guy in charge

@julesh @JadeMasterMath FL was a problem regardless and they chose it anyway

@flippac @JadeMasterMath It was going to be there 2 years ago, as far as I understand there was a kind of coup in the committee and it was moved to Washington DC (which I also didn't go to)

@JadeMasterMath Whether or not a hybrid option is available, it's an inappropriately exclusionary choice of venue.

@JadeMasterMath Yeah, of all times, this is an especially puzzling one to hold an international meeting in Florida…

@JadeMasterMath I guess one question is, if you declined for reason of the hosting state, would that leave a big enough impression on them they'd at least consider the idea of moving next time

@mcc well it changes every year anyway so 🤷

@JadeMasterMath Oh, interesting

I'm not telling you what to do but maybe it would create a positive change in the world if it was strongly impressed on them that there are certain places their conference needs to avoid next year and probably at least for the next four years.

It looks from the other replies like the conf is hybrid but "I am being given the option of only online participation, while other volunteers get privilege of attending" seems to me like a solid justification for declining
