I went to the Artapestry 7 exhibition recently, and it was beautiful. So many fluffy, wooly, shiny textures! Here's my two favourites.

Unfortunately, certain pieces could only be viewed up close, because of the way they were displayed. The one called Birches was completely unrecognisable, because you couldn't get more than 2 meters away...

I have taken up weaving, something I thought I would forever leave to others. I’m collecting all of the craft techniques and weaving just wasn’t my style. To slow, to methodical.

Band weaving, yes! Small scale tapestry, maybe. But like, real big loom action? Nah. But I just finished my first self drafted half fill costume fabric and I’m hooked.

Yes, there’s a mistake in the middle. But I’m going to be making it into a bodice, where the mistake will disappear into the garment piecing. Yes the process was long and slow, but shuttling on a good day is better than deep breathing meditation. I’ve never been so satisfied with the state of things.

I guess I’m a weaver too now. So I am become a creator of fabrics.

Beau used his day off to go hiking up a mountain to do some #CedarBark #harvesting for more traditional #CoastSalish #weaving work.
He sent me photos as he hiked through the forest. These are just the bark harvest related photos with one fairy slipper orchid wildflower photo - he knows my fave colour is purple 🥰

Question for the #weaving bubble on here - anyone using Treadl?

I found this site and it looks interesting but before signing up I'd like to get some opinions about it.

I'm a beginning weaver, I'm interested in finding patterns and projects and ideas and maybe a bit of a community. Ravelry for weavers or something similar.

I've been poking at Pixelfed, hoping to find a fediverse alternative to Google Photos. I don't think it's really what I need. But I do have some photos there -- here's a cool one: pixelfed.social/p/ddrake/81666

Copying that here: one thing I did not expect about Peru was the unbelievably rich culture of fiber arts. Weaving, spinning, knitting, dyeing, crochet, knitting -- it's EVERYWHERE. Women all over use woven cloth like this to carry things -- you just bundle up your stuff, tie the thing around your shoulders, and go. From groceries to small children, they carry everything.

These aren't just practical and functional, the patterns and colors are simply stunning!
