ICYMI: Laser light technology called LiDAR is transforming Maya #archaeology by creating 3D maps of ancient cities hidden beneath jungle canopy. Where archaeologists once hacked through wilderness on foot, now remote sensors capture detailed data showing extensive urban networks.

The 2016 PACUNAM survey alone mapped over 2,000 square kilometers and identified more than 60,000 structures, dramatically expanding our understanding of Maya civilization's scale and complexity.

Blue and green predominated on the bike ride I went on yesterday. My destination was a transporter bridge. Its ‘gondola’ has room for four people or two people with two bikes. It is operated manually by rope. Quite an adventure

ginkgos are so, so unutterably ancient that the entire class of bugs that pollinated their flowers no longer exist, nor do the creatures their fruits are designed for. they make do with wind and modern replacements, but everyone they developed alongside are long, long gone.

Afternoon walk — many wild and wonderful apple trees along the path.
