@cyberlyra still a lot of work ahead. I'm especially concerned about the deep integration of #toxictech in the government. I'm working as scientist/professor in Mexico. Our email, cloud, conference software are provided by Microsoft (for all public institutions, as far as I know). And or president, Dr Claudia Sheinbaum, answers Donald Trump on X!

Among the #ToxicTech companies there used to be a very thin veneer of "making the world better", "connecting people", etc, but especially in the last few years that mask has been dropped. It's a type of public relations which they feel no longer obligated to engage in. The overton window has been pushed enough over.

As mentioned at the end of the Netscape documentary from the 1990s, the web is failing and being slowly turned into another sort of television, where you are supposed to spend your time having parasocial relationships with politicians or watching influencers pitch value propositions.

We need, like, data cleaning parties to collectively #optout and leave #toxictech As in, hangouts where friends get together and migrate off systems en masse, onto other systems. Preferably with cookies or beer or martinis or something.

Like "knitting circles" or "LAN parties" or tupperware parties ... but for data stuff.

I have long maintained that Opting Out isnt' a personal journal but one that requires community (I get dinged for this all the time and I have to insist, it is only by joining forces around #bettertech that we make change possible at all).

How to get this started? What do your crafting circles/hackathons/WoW raids get going?

Instructions for the FINAL DAY of the #Cybercleanse are now online!

How to:
-Locate alternatives
-Engage with open source projects
-Roll your own tools

Together, let's start an #optout social movement -- away from #toxictech and toward alternatives that promise us all a better future.

Today's #cybercleanse #optout #toxictech challenge by @cyberlyra is a tough one. About 5 years ago, I aggressively #Degoogled after being asked how I liked the restaurant. I just came back ... I tried 'e' and 'Lineage', and own a #linux #PinePhone but sadly, some banking apps require genuine #Android. Thus: For #Bike tours and #detox I use my #Nokia; a #filofax #calendar, and a mechanical #seiko watch. Now try to put an appointment in my calendar or to reach me by #WhatsApp 😉.

"We think of our devices and data traces as personal, but they link us to many, many different people. Even if you think you have nothing to hide, your traces can always be used to incriminate others, especially when there is a shift in the political environment." -- Day Twenty, Fix your Cell Phone

You can reclaim your data.
Start today.
Do it now, for all of us.

Tedious but necessary: today in the #cybercleanse you will change over your "keeper" accounts to an email mask, a generated random password, and (if relevant) a masked credit card.

There's no need for that information to be sitting in everyone else's cloud or their local databanks, waiting to be stolen or hacked or sold.

It's boring but potentially soothing! Give it a try ...

This is how you leave for good. Migrate, transfer, reclaim those relationships from Big Tech and their #toxictech platforms.
