'The Federal Trade Commission had voted in a rule that would make it easier to cancel subscription services, but the start of that rule has been pushed back until July 14. Initially, the regulation — called the Negative Option Rule — went into effect on January 19, but certain provisions weren’t set to kick in until May 14. These provisions would require companies to make it as easy to cancel a subscription as it is to sign up.'

Digital Trends · It might be a while longer before you can easily cancel subscriptionsBy Patrick Hearn

As some users of a particular VPN have recently discovered, a ‘lifetime’ subscription is a dubious selling point and shouldn’t be the most important factor in getting a product.
Who’s ‘lifetime’? Certainly not the subscriber. The lifetime of the app? The company? The OS on which you use it?
There’s questionable value of subscription over a one-time buy. That said, the stand-alone Office 2021 works on MacOS 12, but further updates require +12. Buyer beware.

.. the internet is not the open place where everyone can offer their stuff, share stuff (and make money if others are interested), but we live in a deeply fractured place, where those who have a NYT subscription know different thngs than those who have a DIE ZEIT subscription, where those watching Netflix enjoy different things than those watching Paramount+. Where you can't talk about stuff, share stuff the way you should.

I don't like subscriptions

Curious, in the Subscription section of #Youtuibes's left sidebar suddenly does not shoe #TheDailyShow anymore. I have to go to All #Subscriptions. Neither did I subscribe to another channel since I last saw TDS nor would a channel I watch 4 to 5 times a week be the first choice to kick out of that menu. There are channels I haven't opened for weeks [b/c they haven't posted in months]..

Strange.

Recurly published their 2025 State of #Subscriptions (I missed this back in Feb) - features industry #churnrates and a data on re-signups after churn: "Return acquisition percentage" for % of new signups that were previously subscribed. They also say: "Artificial intelligence (AI) has become indispensable. AI enables businesses to analyze subscriber behaviors, predict churn risks, and automate recovery efforts." I always said, Fight #Churn With Data!
