@stufromoz

Totally support this:

“Maybe a political party should offer to do something about the laws that allow them to spam us without any prior approval or contact, so that shits like the trumpet 🎺 can’t openly behave in this manner.”

Not only them but LNP candidate too - couldn’t give a rat’s proverbial before, now all over me…

A direct/private message from a stranger. The message is practically her intro* with links to other places on the web where one can follow her.

A boring intro sent to me.
Not her speaking* to* me.

Why the heck would I follow?
She got nothing to say.
We don't even have anything in common.
It's basically #spam.

No, this one's not even following. At least some people go thru the motions of following* (even if they later unfollow because all they want is a follow back).

Es-tuuuuu-pi.....
Duh. 🙄

People whom you don't know who write you cryptic DMs.
Over on Tumblr, someone wrote to me "Hello, friend." Nothing more.

Sorry, but these days, that's a red flag. First of all, I am not a friend of the person. Second, I bet this is a scam or spam in the making, just waiting for me to reply.

If you have better intentions, do not just write "Hello" to someone who doesn't know you. Write your reason for writing to the person.

Facebook will begin lowering the reach of accounts sharing spammy content and making them ineligible for monetization, Meta announced. The company says it is also increasing efforts to remove Facebook accounts that coordinate fake engagement and impersonate others. TechRadar pro · Hacking groups are now increasingly in it for the money, not the chaosBy Ellen Jennings-Trace

One sad aspect of the advertising industry's switch from dead-tree postal spam to email, online ads, and in-app paid placements...

Once upon a time, when businesses sent postage-paid reply cards with their spam, if they were truly obnoxious, you could cost them (real) money by putting a rock or a brick in a box and taping the reply card to the outside. Some people just taped the card to a literal brick, no box.

I pity the postal employees who had to handle and deliver these, but I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the mailroom at the offending companies' offices.

In an earlier article, we looked at bulk registration of domain names used for cybercrime based on the data from cybercrime activity in January 2025. We reviewed phishing data that we collect at the Cybercrime Information Center to identify bulk registration activity reported during February 2025.

In this article, Colin Strutt identifies the operators whose registration services were misused by cybercriminals to acquire lots of domain names in short timeframes through some form of automation.

Ça me gonfle. Je hais ces boîtes.

(Je dis ça parce que j'arrête pas de recevoir ces appels sur mon numéro pro où je décroche les numéros que je connais pas contrairement à mon numéro perso et qu'on me donne un nom différent à chaque fois…)

Laughing at the #spam issues on #Codeberg and their florid language.

"the concept is absolutely liberating and exciting"

"cherish the liberation"

"I’m *literally* losing my mind" (with lots of emojis)

It's easy to tell that this is spam because the writing style is infantile and all the issues appear either at precisely the same time or within a few minutes. A smarter spammer would do things more slowly and stealthily, but it's hard to see what the business model is here other than perhaps to make Codeberg less viable compared to commercial competitors.

@smallcircles @Codeberg

#Spam plagues the online world but there is no analog of spam in real life. At worst you might get your mailbox filled by ads and flyers, but they will not be totally random garbage.

A combination of scarcity (cost) and traceability does the trick.

Until we design the internet so that easy abuse enabled by zero cost digital tools is not possible we'll be living in the barbaric times of the digital age. But it is possible that the cure will be worse than the disease.

How I know #Codeberg is a public good

I know this because they are constantly under attack by fascist script kiddies who are regularly flooding them with spam, and periodically launching DDoS attacks against them. Only someone doing a truly useful and ethical public service could evoke such extreme hatred of the worlds most evil people.

The Codeberg admins deleted these spam posts within an hour of them being posted and deleted the accounts that generated them. They are doing a fantastic job, and I thank them for their dedication and hard work.

@Codeberg In later issue titles (not shown) they’ve foregone the AI and just default to the same racial slur. (So you know what kind of lowlife scum are behind the attack.) It’s not just my repositories either so I wouldn’t visit Codeberg until this is dealt with if I were you unless you want to subject yourself to that crap. I’ll let you all know when it’s been dealt with.

#codeberg#AI#spam

Oh yay, would you look at that, another “use” for AI: looks like at least my repos on @Codeberg are getting hit by a deluge of AI-generated issue spam.

Imagine the kind of sad, meaningless life you must have to attack free and open source projects on a community owned and operated source forge.
