After buying a new PC and switching to #linux I've toyed with the idea of migrating the whole family to linux.

Switched the 13-year-old over the other day, and today I finished migrating my old desktop for the 10-year-old.

I'm not saying it's problem free, it definitely helps if you enjoy the process of getting everything right, but it's absolutely doable.

Shoutout to #Steam and #Sober for making it easy peasy to game on linux, even Roblox!

Before the awful festivities of tomorrow's holiday, I wanted to take a moment to reflect, as it will mark 17 years of #sobriety for me, personally.

It's been a tough road, and 45/47 definitely has made the past decade rough as all hell. But I keep showing up, one day at a time.

My health has declined since the first COVID infection in 2022, but even with these symptoms, it's a world of difference being sober. My liver and kidneys aren't constantly filtering poison from my body, and after 17 years of time off, maybe they're doing pretty great. Take a look at the before and after photos below...70 extra lbs is a lot to carry!

If you are questioning whether you need to stop drinking, or picking up that drug of choice: Don't lie to yourself. It's incredibly easy to lie to yourself, very difficult and admirable to reject lying to yourself in this moment.

If I can do this, you can do this. Stay strong. Stay alive.

Here's to tomorrow's challenges, which I will face like I did today's: With effort, but also resolve

Time for an #Introduction post. I’m a #liveaboard #sailor (www.svloka.com) and full time #nomad who is also a #creative #artist. I play #guitar, #crochet, paint (#watercolor & #acrylic), and draw #penandink. I love #yoga and use #meditation to manage my #anxiety. Got #sober in 2020.

I am a recovering #softwareengineer (#programmer) and #ITmanager. I focused a lot on #leadership & effective #communication, and I still enjoy #mentoring people on those topics. I still tinker with tech on occasion.

Thanks to the idiotic decision from Roblox of not supporting Linux, and given that these days not even Sober is working due to the "anti-cheat" enforcement, I've ended up cooking a non-optimal but (hopefully) feasible solution:

I've installed Waydroid on the Steam Deck (thanks to pimylifeup.com/steam-deck-wayd for the walkthrough over the simple steps), and then installed the Android version of Roblox. I've tested it briefly myself, and it seems to work, but I'll have to wait for the verdict from my kids, who will be putting it to the test tomorrow.

I can’t fathom staring at the bottom of an empty bottle of any kind in 2025

And…

I am fucking grateful to be 19 years clean and sober today. I had a wild night in northern Croatia before getting on a 12-hr overnight bus ride on the old coastal highway February 9th, 2006, that was a shit choice to be loaded for. I was 21.

You don’t have to wait for tomorrow y’all. Grateful for today #ottawa #sober

Moving back into what amounts to an independent assisted living has an advantage I didn't think about when I made the decision when the #LAWildfires happened.

I am now surrounded by a lot of other people who were #homeless and have similar struggles, who I can interview and speak on behalf of as well.

I made the decision because I wasn't confident in my ability to stay #sober alone with how stressed out I was after losing my job, #ptsd related struggles, and was free.

Oh and more regular therapy. I ebb and flow between every 2-4 weeks but I think every 2 weeks is going to go strong for the next while. This will be the 10th year of EMDR therapy and it saved my life in so many ways and very grateful for that relationship. I dunno, connection with people we love in real life takes a lotta work but it all strips down to commmnity at the end of the day #ottawa #canada #sober #therapy

Abstract: The rise of TikTok as a primary source of information for youth, combined with its unique short-form video format, creates urgent questions about how substance use content manifests and spreads on the platform. This paper provides the first in-depth exploration of substance use-related content on TikTok, covering all major substance categories as classified by the Drug Enforcement Agency. Through social network analysis and qualitative coding, we examined more than 2,333 hashtags across 39,509 videos, identified 16 distinct hashtag communities and analyzed their interconnections and thematic content. Our analysis revealed a highly interconnected small-world network where recovery-focused hashtags like #addiction, #recovery, and #sober serve as central bridges between communities. Through manual coding of 351 representative videos, we found that Recovery Advocacy content (33.9%) and Satirical content (28.2%) dominate, while direct substance depiction appears in only 26% of videos, with active use shown in just 6.5% of them. This suggests TikTok functions primarily as a recovery support platform rather than a space promoting substance use. We found strong alignment between hashtag communities and video content, indicating organic community formation rather than attempts to evade content moderation. Our findings inform how platforms can balance content moderation with preserving valuable recovery support communities, while also providing insights for the design of social media-based recovery interventions.

There's something I've never talked about with anyone except in #Therapy. To paramedics and a hospital.

That's it.

It's important though.

It doesn't matter if you're six feet tall, male, and tough as could be because you were raised in hell.

The reason I got #sober two and a half years ago was because I was high, unable to defend myself, and was assaulted, taken advantage of, and nearly died.

I was a different person after that.

I never got #justice either.
