Nora Dimitrijević
Here's one for the #snowclone database: "X has a well-known Y bias"

Originally a Colbert-ism [1] directed at Bush (X = reality, Y = liberal), but I've seen it used fruitfully with other values of X and Y.

[1]: https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4698442/user-clip-reality-liberal-bias

JordiGH
For a while I've been trying to figure out where the "X 2: The X-ening" #snowclone comes from. The closest I've gotten to the source of where this sequel-is-dumb thing comes from is from "Highlander 2: The Quickening", because didn't the first movie very clearly state that there could only be one?

But I haven't been able to find patient zero from "Highlander 2: the Quickening" to "Highlander 2: The Highlanderening".

Anyone know?

JordiGH
I can't find a definitive answer to this, but I'm pretty sure that the meme of calling the sequel, to say, "Chair" as "Chair 2: The Chairening" comes from the awful sequel "Highlander 2: The Quickening".

The only part that isn't clear is how did the #snowclone go from the "X 2: The Y-ening" to "X 2: The X-ening".

JordiGH
So, quick theory here on the -ening suffix being added to lame movie sequels: (e.g.Shark 2: The Sharkening): Highlander II: The Quickening played the title straight. It's not "the highlending" or whatever, but it has almost the same structure and is a ridiculous premise after the first movie VERY CLEARLY stated how many there could be. It was also awful and critically panned.

Hip skippity hop, modify it a little, and we have the exploitable X 2: The Xening #snowclone.

Agree?
