The world may be a little crazy right now, but at least:

1. The days are longer than the nights. #Spring
2. Good people are rising up.
3. #Artists, #actors & #musicians are in full #creative mode.
4. Now has never been a better time to do something creative.
5. The value of #positivity is now known.
6. The value of #mentalhealth is now known.
7. The value of taking #risks is now known.
8. #Courage & #compassion everywhere.

Every #crisis is a chance for you to be someone's #hero.

@Fiona : proper risk analysis takes into account EVERY weakness.

Even *if* you are right that Threema does *not* use forward secrecy, AFAIK the servers are not in located in the US and neither are the developers.

The chances that an orange haired idiot orders Threema to build in a backdoor and STFU about it, are therefore lower than with *ANY* US-associated whatsever signaling app.

(Me: just a longtime happy Threema user, without any PhD, but believing to understand what forward secrecy means. Including that if missing FS poses a risk to a specific user, that user has a *LOT* more to worry about - including which phone and which OS to use anyway).

P.S. are you (the reader) still using email?

A federal judge has ordered #Trump admin ofcls involved in #ElonMusk’s “opaque” #DOGE to #testify under oath in one of the many sprawling lawsuits seeking to block DOGE’s access to sensitive govt databases.

US Dist Judge John Bates agreed Thurs that “very limited” efforts to question ofcls connected to DOGE would help clarify what exactly the group is doing & whether it poses the #risks to sensitive data that govt employees fear.

Dekleva is now at the #EPA in a crucial job: She…has the authority to approve new #chemicals…. Earlier she spent 32yrs at Dupont, the chemical maker, before joining…the first #Trump admin.

Her most recent employer, the chemicals #lobbying group, has made reversing the EPA’s course on #formaldehyde a priority & is pushing to abolish a program under which the agency assess the #risks of chemicals to human #health.

From @shayneredford: "AI crawler wars threaten to make the web more closed for everyone"
technologyreview.com/2025/02/1
(#paywalled)

"Crawlers are endemic. Now representing half of all internet traffic, they will soon outpace human traffic… As of late, they serve one more purpose: Companies such as OpenAI use web-crawled data to train their artificial intelligence systems…Websites are now fighting back for fear that this invasive species…will help displace them. But…this pushback is also threatening the transparency and open borders of the web…Unless we are thoughtful about how we fix this, the web will increasingly be fortified with logins, paywalls, and access tolls that inhibit not just AI but the biodiversity of real users and useful crawlers."

The cost of preventing extinction of Australia’s priority species

"It would cost $15.6 billion per year for 30 years to prevent extinction for 99 of Australia’s priority species. The cost to reverse the decline of priority species and undo damage done by habitat loss, disease and other threats was estimated at $103.7 billion annually, while getting them off the threatened list entirely would require $157.7 billion per year.”

"Biodiversity loss and ecosystems collapse is ranked by the World Economic Forum as the second most significant global risk over the next decade, with 50 per cent of the global economy dependent on nature. " >>
