Kevin Veen-Birkenbach<p>🚀 Just implemented an OAuth2-Proxy role in CyMaIS! 🔐 Now, applications that only support LDAP or other login methods can be hidden behind a <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/proxy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>proxy</span></a>, enforcing 2FA with TOTP for extra security! 🎉</p><p>Next step? Setting up a firewall to lock down access to LDAP and other services, so they’re only reachable through a closed <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/VPN" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VPN</span></a>. 🔥🔒</p><p>Check out the role:<br><a href="https://github.com/kevinveenbirkenbach/cymais/tree/master/roles/docker-oauth2-proxy" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/kevinveenbirkenbach</span><span class="invisible">/cymais/tree/master/roles/docker-oauth2-proxy</span></a></p><p><a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/DevOps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DevOps</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/OAuth2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OAuth2</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/TOTP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TOTP</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/SecurityFirst" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SecurityFirst</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/CyberSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CyberSecurity</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/LDAP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LDAP</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/VPN" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VPN</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/OpenSource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/Coding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Coding</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/Infrastructure" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Infrastructure</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/2FA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>2FA</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/CyMaIS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CyMaIS</span></a> <a href="https://microblog.veen.world/tags/Firewall" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Firewall</span></a></p>

Andy Alderwick<p>Edit: This has been answered :flan_hurrah:</p><p>I'm super confused after reading <a href="http://www.thread-safe.com/2012/01/problem-with-oauth-for-authentication.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">http://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">thread-safe.com/2012/01/proble</span><span class="invisible">m-with-oauth-for-authentication.html</span></a> and its take-home message that we should *not* be using <a href="https://merveilles.town/tags/OAuth2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OAuth2</span></a> for authentication: that's what <a href="https://merveilles.town/tags/OpenIDConnect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenIDConnect</span></a> is for.</p><p>If that's the case, why does <a href="https://merveilles.town/tags/Forgejo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Forgejo</span></a>, Gitea etc. allow OAuth2 to be used this way?</p><p>That blog post was from 2012 but I've seen the same advice in 2019 at <a href="https://github.com/zmartzone/lua-resty-openidc/issues/261#issuecomment-483841062" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/zmartzone/lua-resty</span><span class="invisible">-openidc/issues/261#issuecomment-483841062</span></a> : “OAuth 2.0 cannot be used for user authentication”. Thomas Sandmann<p>Many of my colleagues use box.com (a commercial cloud storage provider) to store and share data &amp; metadata. Luckily, the awesome boxr R package by Brendan Rocks, <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://vis.social/@ijlyttle" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>ijlyttle</span></a></span> and Nathan Day allows me to read / write files directly from box. But I always forget how to authenticate on a new system - so I wrote a tutorial: "Interacting with box cloud storage: the boxr R package" <a href="https://tomsing1.github.io/blog/posts/boxr/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">tomsing1.github.io/blog/posts/</span><span class="invisible">boxr/</span></a> Perhaps it's useful to others as well!</p><p><a href="https://genomic.social/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rstats</span></a> <a href="https://genomic.social/tags/CloudComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CloudComputing</span></a> <a href="https://genomic.social/tags/api" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>api</span></a> <a href="https://genomic.social/tags/oauth2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oauth2</span></a> <a href="https://genomic.social/tags/jwt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jwt</span></a> <a href="https://genomic.social/tags/datascience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>datascience</span></a></p>
