Dave Jeffery<p>When it's not recorded with a potato, the Associated-Rediffusion March by Stanley Bate (no, not the bloke inside Bungle!) sounds absolutely glorious. I'm turning my piano sketch into a score at the moment in Musescore Studio. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/musescore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>musescore</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rediffusion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rediffusion</span></a></p>

Somē<p>I've got audio working on MuseScore4 + Void Linux! A little summary of what I did (for myself and anyone else on <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> needing <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/MuseScore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MuseScore</span></a> 4)</p><p>I first switched to <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/pipewire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pipewire</span></a>. For me, this involved uninstalling <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/pulseaudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pulseaudio</span></a> and jack, then installing the packages `pipewire alsa-pipewire`. This differs on other distros. I needed to verify that pipewire was starting up properly. Since I didn't have a login manager, I had to set the XDG_RUNTIME_DIR variable manually and also create that directory everytime I booted. Using `tmp` instead of `run` worked better for me. </p><p>Then I followed these steps: <a href="https://docs.voidlinux.org/config/media/pipewire.html#alsa-integration" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">docs.voidlinux.org/config/medi</span><span class="invisible">a/pipewire.html#alsa-integration</span></a> to get <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/alsa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>alsa</span></a> integration going. Restart, then that's it!</p><p>MuseScore now has audio 😭</p>
Irina<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://toot.mirbsd.org/@mirabilos" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>mirabilos</span></a></span> Yes, I chose the right template (which I made myself, and which worked every time until now). It has a soprano/mezzo part and an alto part, and the alto part had the bass clef; when I changed that to a treble clef, the bass clef stayed in the second and further systems. (On the second try it worked.) Yes, the notes that turned out to be F natural were newly-entered notes. Also, I know how transposing works; I've been using <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/MuseScore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MuseScore</span></a> 3 for choir music for years.</p>
Irina<p>I do intend to transpose the piece for men's voices (hoping to make a small dream come true) but <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/MuseScore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MuseScore</span></a> shouldn't be second-guessing me about that.</p>
Irina<p>hey <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/MuseScore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MuseScore</span></a>, (a) this is a template for women's voices so there's no call for a bass clef in the bottom staff, (b) when I replace that with a treble clef I want it on all lines, not just the first, (c) a key signature of one sharp should make any F into F sharp without prompting. <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/AmEditingMusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AmEditingMusic</span></a></p>

It comes with a learning threshold of its own, but being able to input notes/rhythm and have the computer play it back to you is quite helpful for reinforcing those see/hear connections. Since it has a metronome and can slow down the tempo, its OK to play along with too, and there are lots of free Musescore files floating around online.</p><p>3/n</p>
Dave Jeffery<p>Downloaded MuseScore 4.5, so I thought I'd see what the drums and guitars are like (they've had a lot of work recently). Ist also das Gegenteil von "Kulturhauptstadt Europas Chemnitz"</p><p><a href="https://word.undead-network.de/2025/03/11/corruptio-et-idiocy-ode-an-die-ignoranz-sinfonie-in-am-op-666/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">word.undead-network.de/2025/03</span><span class="invisible">/11/corruptio-et-idiocy-ode-an-die-ignoranz-sinfonie-in-am-op-666/</span></a><br><a href="https://social.undeadnetwork.de/tags/aefreier" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>aefreier</span></a> <a href="https://social.undeadnetwork.de/tags/chemnitz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chemnitz</span></a> <a href="https://social.undeadnetwork.de/tags/chemnitz2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chemnitz2025</span></a> <a href="https://social.undeadnetwork.de/tags/ECoC2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ECoC2025</span></a> <a href="https://social.undeadnetwork.de/tags/Kulturhauptstadt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kulturhauptstadt</span></a> <a href="https://social.undeadnetwork.de/tags/musescore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>musescore</span></a> <a href="https://social.undeadnetwork.de/tags/reverendelvis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reverendelvis</span></a> <a href="https://social.undeadnetwork.de/tags/sinfonie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sinfonie</span></a> <a href="https://social.undeadnetwork.de/tags/symphony" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>symphony</span></a> <a href="https://social.undeadnetwork.de/tags/undead" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>undead</span></a></p>
