Stop conference lecturing! Sadly, the majority of conferences are still dominated by lecturing, even though we know it's a poor way to learn.
Don't waste valuable meeting time with lectures! Social production is the way to maximize learning that leads to significant, valuable, long-term change.
#BlueSky finally appeared in #Warsaw full #Monday today while #lecturing at #PhD #Doctoral Programme on (i) #Political & #Constitutional System of the #State and (ii) #Public #Sectoral #Policies by updating #technopolitics of #AI #Web3 at @SGHWarsaw

I just got a message that there are still some assignments that need grading and the deadline has passed.
Then realising it is a program I did not lecture this year, but I am still in the system.

Oh, this is illuminating. A "compositional approach to performance" as dual to "improvisational composition" makes perfect sense for Gould. And as you suggest, Gould stays true to the material, no self-indulgence.
I am not a musician myself, but as a lecturer I experience a similar tension: the exposition must be free and created afresh in front of the students, and yet it must remain true to the canon.
I'm intrigued to see how other academics feel about this, since it's come up again as a conversation in my friendship group.
Assuming that it fits the tone of your presentation, is it acceptable to swear when giving a presentation in a "professional" (e.g. at a conference, or as a guest lecturer) capacity?
•Being personally thanked by the organisers like I did something special was lovely. We lecture pretty much every day, and nobody thanks us normally
Some thoughts and feelings from being on the other side of the plenary lecturn:
•There is so much foot traffic in a plenary. I’ve always thought it must be quite unnerving to see all the people going in and out of the big lecture hall while you’re speaking.
Indeed, it is
•I’ve only ever given lectures to big halls wearing a headmic. Speaking into a stationary mike seemed very uncomfortable.
Indeed, it is.

Glad to have come to the end of another teaching term at Exeter. Over 60 lectures given on the Fundamentals of Weather and Climate, the Fluid Dynamics of Atmospheres and Oceans, and Numerical Modelling. It is always a privilege to introduce students to new material, and I’ve been excited by their engagement. Some of them even enjoyed my bad jokes…! #lecturing #dadjokes #climatescience
We aren't quite there yet, but this #ChatGPT is still better than some answers we get to our university exam questions... (Example of mock exam essay my MA student took this week). While we do still really need to teach good writing, assessing students with other medium using creative methods is one way to escape (delay?) the quick-fix of automation. I get them to make podcasts, comics, films, for instance. But then you will tell me there is AI art, so hey...

Good point by @siliconshecky in regards to read teaming and Pentests.
Brief question to the Mastodon bubble. For next year I want to give my students a few example reports and let them work on them as a case study.
Does anyone know whether there are publicly available, good / bad, Pentest / RedTeam reports?
Boosts for reach are appreciated!
