KdeConnect (on the phone) and GSConnect (on the computer) turn out to work extremely well when I'm using a computer for media playback plugged in to the TV across the room. It gives me a virtual keyboard and mouse to control the computer with, among other things.

This plus Jellyfin's remote control feature so I can drive Jellyfin in the web browser from the app on the phone make it all work nicely.

A note regarding #alttext's on ¤mastodon:
I really do not like writing on my phone, so I tend to use #tokodon to write posts - like now. But adding an alt text to an image often fails, tokodon says the server replies "try to update your settings" or so. So no way to add an alt text from tokodon (after posting).
On the mastodon android app, pasting appears to be broken, so no way to paste a text copied from the pc (I'm using #kdeconnect of cause) there.
It is possible to add an alt text using the web interface, although I find UI quite bad.

Ahh...

Continued thread

* Play music on my computer but listen with a BT speaker while doing chores in the house. I can stop or skip the music via the media player plugin.
* Also, it automatically stops the music if I receive a call.

Real ways in which I use #KDEConnect day to day:

* My scanner in in the main room and my computer in the office (new furniture should fix that, but it's low prio; in the meantime...). I use my phone to click the scan button on my computer while standing by the scanner, flipping and feeding pages.
* My kids use it to drive the tv (my home/media server with a screen) to see the next episode of whatever they're watching (only while I cook; #parenting). No need to buy a BT keyboard+mouse!

This is BIG if this actually gets through/implemented, even if it'll be limited in the EU (cos then other big markets can pressure #Apple to implement the same).

It's always been mind boggling how Apple get to ensure an artificial "monopoly" by limiting the
#iPhone to only "work best" with their own digital services (i.e. #AirDrop) and hardware (i.e. #AirPods, #AppleWatch) by (malicious) design.

I imagine this change is also exactly what third-party services (alternatives) like
#KDEConnect would need to have feature parity on #iOS with their same app on #Android.

Nine specific iOS connectivity features were highlighted by the commission as needing to be made accessible to device manufacturers and app developers
Apple will need to allow an iPhone user to use an alternative to AirDrop when sending a picture to an Android user, and vice versa
Among the other features that must be made available include iOS notifications, background executions, automatic audio switching and automatic WiFi connections as well as high-bandwidth peer-to-peer WiFi connections
