#JitsiMeet Frage(n):

UPDATE 2: Ich hab erstmal geblökt: blog.atari-frosch.de/2025/04/1 – und muß wohl morgen weitermachen.

Do you pay Geeglo/Mixroshoft/Shroom oodles of personal data and gobs of fiat & taxpayer money, but find that your meetings are a pain to start or are still limited to sixty minutes? Aside from the fact that it's probably a good idea to try to keep your meetings short and productive (15 or 25 min is my preference) - consider using #JitsiMeet or #BigBlueButton for a more ethical, flexible, sustainable conference for you and your attendees.

Thank you to both projects for hosting my day's virtual discussions without a hitch! 🫶 #opensource #appreciation

Are you using #Jitsi meet? I proposed a feature you might know from your screen presentation tool or your projector remote: blanking or freezing the screen content so that you might do something in the background without showing what you do.

Very handy for demos, password interaction, fixing things, looking up something, ...

Unfortunately, #JitsiMeet is deleting feature requests like that after two months if they don't get implemented meanwhile.

You might want to jump in to this discussion if you find this useful:

What problem are you trying to solve? Many times during screen sharing, I need to quickly switch somewhere else, type in a password or do something else which no other participant should see. Curre...

@MartinaNeumayer @VixenBlu @thelusciouslibra Re: #eMail and #Chat, I'd still recommend to stick with #SelfCustody, and use @monocles #monoclesMail, #monoclesChat , @delta #deltaChat and many other options.

- One nifty option for #VideoTelephony one may want to look at is #WebCall:
timur.mobi/webcall/

I got pointed at it since it's very easy to use and unlike #JitsiMeet they don't demand #PII for registration or record stuff and one can #SelfHost it too...

Oh the horrors of public service dependencies on proprietary tech. For the second time, I've been invited to discuss private health matters using Zoom. The Ministry of Health should be running its own BigBlueButton or Jitsi Meet servers for this. Ideally using MatrixRTC to E2EE the calls.

EDIT: or use ministry-hosted Element Call, for that matter.

@AdminKirsty @delta nodds in agreement

Add to that there are sufficient tools that allow for #secure, #E2EE #communication.

  • Like: Even if they don't like #PGP/MIME there's nothing that prevents them from supporting #XMPP+#OMEMO or having any #secure means to communicate.

I do go out of my way to implement better alternatives to existing bad option...

TBH, #unencrypted and thus #insecure communication should disqualify every #company and #organization as a matter or principle and it's high time #GDPR & #BDSG make support for proper #encryption mandatory, regardless if #2FA or general communications!
