I moved our weekly virtual drinks party from Skype to Jitsi a few weeks ago, after Microsoft fumbled the transition from Skype to #Teams and one of us couldn't join. I'm really impressed by the way Jitsi has come on since I last tried it in 2020: not only is the connection clear and stable, but #Jitsi makes better use of our inadequate bandwidth than #Skype ever did.

I know that I've said it many times before, but I'm just blown away by how much amazing Free/open source software people and companies are making, and just how good it can be.
Not just for hobbyists / tinkering (although those are absolutely valid use cases), but for Actually Getting Stuff Done.

@yakkoj no one ever, in the history of my Jitsi server, told me to use Webex or Teams as a better alternative.

Großes Lob & Dank an @ossrox für ihre tollen Open Source Services, die noch besser ermöglichen einfach von den amerikanischen Unternehmen wegzukommen.
Ich hoffe immer mehr Menschen, Organisationen, Vereine und Unternehmen nutzen diese Möglichkeiten und kommen aus ihrer großen Komfortzone, um die Verbreitung europäischer Dienste zu fördern.
Zum Thema Unabhängigkeit von amerikanischen Diensten zeige ich auf welche ich stattdessen nutze.

Working through the suggested alternatives to Zoom, starting with #Jitsi - but it appears to want me to login using Facebook (hahahahaha), Google (hahahahahahahahahahaha) or GitHub. Now, the latter I can do. But I've heard rumblings about that site too.
Why would anyone offering an alternative to Zoom suggest these as the only login methods?
I've been using jitsi.meet as a free non-USA alternative to Zoom, googlemeet, and the truly dire Teams.
It works, noise suppression isn't great and as a host you have to login via a corporate login service like Google or Github (I'm an old git and use that as least worse). But certainly a viable alternative.

bekomme ich immer wieder mitgeteilt und muss dann aber eine schweigepflicht unterschreiben, dass ich nichts aus dem #chat & co verrate – ein mal mit menschen bitte und nicht immer die kommerz-konsum-bots die noch stolz darauf sind und sich #profis nennen

I am not a happy camper.
Jitsi-meet (a chat server) had an upgrade today. It broke this thing called jitsi-meet.
It edited the config file for my domain at 9:20 this morning, which was when I ran apt upgrade, and screwed it up.
Arr, matey. Whar's the backup?
It's also looking for files whar they ain't. Arr. That's a known bug that happened with old versions in 2021, and was tagged "wontfix."
Maybe the domain config errors triggered the later ones. That would be nice. Otherwise, I'm chasing old ghosts, which is never fun, and makes me wonder about their release process.
There have been many upgrades. This is the first breakage like it for me.
Grr. Grumble. Gripe.

plusieurs fois, par mail à la #LDHRennes, sans succès, et le plus souvent , sans retour aux mails,
la #LDH nationnale s'est déjà pourvue en #BBB et n'utilise plus #zoom depuis un bon moment,
c'est bien ça le plus triste et agaçant: ils ont été alertés, et il y a eu plus d'un article sur les fuites de zoom depuis 2019 où il est vrai, les alternatives étaient bien moins connues (il n'y a pas que Big Blue Button, il y a #jitsi qui marche très bien également, par exemple)
The latest jitsi-meet upgrade, 2.0.10133, released today, breaks dpkg configuration. Thanks a lot for the extra work.

En inderdaad, wij verkopen "hout" (hosting), maar we verkopen ook complete oplossingen "meubels".
We leveren bijvoorbeeld #nextcloud met nextcloud #office en #e-mail (volledig verzorgd) en #peertube als service en #mastodon als service en wat dacht je van #jitsi en #bigbluebutton ook als service.
Het is zelfs zo dat Bert daar zelf gebruik van maakt, de mastodon.nl server is qua eigennaarschap van de stichting ActivityPub, maar draait met en door ProcoliX.

@universiteitleiden Voor chat in eigen beheer zou #Mattermost of #Matrix een veel beter keuze zijn.
Voor #Videobellen is #BigBlueButton of #Jitsi een goede privacy vriendelijke keuze voor álle gespreksdeelnemers.
