"It is absolutely right to emphasize the importance of respecting #voters, and try to understand them, rather than assuming that those who disagree with you are stupid or racist. But voters are not going to tell you how to #govern the country. It is not their job. Relying on their opinions to try to deduce what to do leads not only to incoherence, but to a negative loop."

Here's the discourse I'm waiting to find: someone addressing the circular reasoning problem of "the state." I've seen some really interesting proposed models of how a society could truly *govern itself* rather than creating a layer of, well, "archons" above them. But that looks a hell of a lot like a state structure, to me, just a flat one.

In less than 48 hours new passport is manufactured and done, ready for collection.

Less 48 hours since I visited the passport office.

It is nice to live in a staady democracy with a well and quickly functioning governing system. No interrogaion, no bribing, not even a single question besides a nice "please sign here" instruction at the coutner.

How you’ll know if we descend into a ‘presidential dictatorship’ - “…if Trump successfully defies the courts, the only remaining obstacle to dictatorship will be public revulsion, national popular protest, and the hope that such a reaction would cause Trump to retreat and, at long last, recall some fraction of the Republican Party to its constitutional duty.” Via SLATE. #Coup #AmericanCoup #Authoritarianism #Dictatorship #Democracy #BalanceOfPower #Government #Governing #Politics #USPolitics

@TucsonSentinel The post isn't wrong. We aren't excited.

I will absolutely be #voting, especially down ticket where federal, state, county, and municipal #elections are critically important. They affect every one of us.

I'll also #vote the top the ticket, though I don't really see how anything short of a miracle is going to change between now and November that would change my vote. The candidates are known quantities with known philosophies of #governing...they've both been #president.

The #House’s struggle to send $14B in emergency #aid to #Israel is exposing #political rifts that leave #America looking like a divided super power unable even to rush help to a friend that believes it’s fighting an existential #war.

A vote on the package was expected on Thurs, though that now appears at risk, as the country’s political schisms & a fractured #ForeignPolicy consensus once again threaten to paralyze #governing.

It shouldn’t be this hard.

Though one more #Republican was present to vote for him Wed, #JimJordan only flipped 2 of his 20 colleagues who opposed him on Tues. What’s worse is that in the past 24hrs, Jordan LOST support from 4 #Republicans, many of whom are pragmatic lawmakers focused on #governing & allies of #SteveScalise. Reps Mariannette Miller-Meeks & Vern Buchanan had both indicated previously that they would support #Jordan for at least 2 round of voting before flipping as they did today.
