I created an “endless vortex” in p5.js after being inspired by Zak Korvin’s video showing how to make one by hand: youtu.be/Qcpk0S5-tEg

I was looking for an op art-style piece that participants in a recent creative coding workshop I ran could recreate. The implementation ended up more complex than what I had in mind, so I didn’t end up using it. But seeing as the Day 19 prompt for Genuary was “Op Art”, I thought I’d share the results.

When I make op-art sketches, I always end up spending a long time tweaking and playing around with them. It's meditative and enjoyable, even if not always the most productive use of my time. I started with a colorful organic sketch, which was rather silly and not very nice to look at. I started over with a back-to-the-basics B&W geometric system.

#genuary19 prompt: Op art.

I couldn't come up with anything impressive for just pi=4 so I combined it with op art, then it came to life, especially if you have a comparison right away. This is why the video contains the Python prompt on the top and you can see the drastic change when pi becomes 4 for a while.

The prompt for #Genuary2025 Day 19 is ” #OpArt ” & Day 28 is “ #InfiniteScroll

SeenUnseen is coded in #Hydravideosynth @hydra and it is inspired by some OpArt techniques as well as making what should be seen, probably unseen or vice versa? While having infinite scrolling in some of the layers

Genuary 2025 Day 19: "Oops Art."

"The inbound Stream of Dreams"

So today I'll cheat and post one of my favourite images ever.
A sculpture I modelled long ago in Softimage XSI with subdivision surfaces and then tried to UV-unwrap generatively...
...which went beautifully wrong, the checkerboard grid was deformed into a fantastic pattern.
I have this hanging on my wall as a large print.
