After getting a basic ALU design done yesterday & starting a **very** rough start at a microcodeish thing, today the first design of the controlunit & overall cpu design comes together, so it can actually calculate an addition from two arbitary registers and store the result back into a register of choice! :3

Finally got my hands on an #fpga! It's a sipeed tang primer 20k with the dock base board, which has hdmi, usbc host&device, ethernet, a stereo audio output and ofc your standard gpio, leds and switches :3 If anyone has ideas for cool projects with fpgas, im open for ideas, since other than an cpu, I currently dont know really what to do with it lol x3 #fpgadev

Implement link_port and display_modes for core config (thanks @AlyxRen). Added support for ‘filename’ to hard code files in file slots. Fixed a missing dependency on distutils for Python >= 3.12.
The Tang Nano 20K #FPGA in the A2FPGA has a TF card slot, and with the way the A2FPGA is designed, you could have it emulate a floppy drive or hard drive on the #AppleII bus, replacing the need for a FloppyEmu or even a disk controller… #retrocomputing #FPGAdev #Apple2

Added use of a default docker image if Quartus is not found. Version commands also checks for any new build posted. Fixed some commands failing on macOS in some cases.

Big breakthrough on Friday night… I finally made it all the way to tracing file loading off the SD card… This opens the door for loading actual code and then plugging in a good old 68000 into the console.
Scaler bug fix confirmed! 
#ProjectFreedom (or what parts of it actually exists right now which is a bare bones graphic chip) now runs full screen!!

“Analogue Pocket OS v1.2 will be released in early December. OS v1.2 fixes many important bugs, adds new controller support, updates Nanoloop, and adds openFPGA Developer features. OS v2.0 will be released before Christmas featuring Original Display Mode support for openFPGA and a new CRT Trinitron Original Display Mode.”

The book I'm reading uses .pkg but that seems awfully generic.

Editing, building and programming the Pocket’s FPGA directly from @panic’s Nova editor on macOS (via a Linux Nuc).
The ‘pf program’ command will be included in the next release of my command line pf-dev-tools and works on Linux and Windows.
TIL Quartus doesn’t actually really save its project files, especially the signal tap stuff, even if you click save until you actually exit the IDE 
Did you know you can use the Intel Quartus tool chain on macOS? Even if you have an M1 or M2 Mac??? I didn’t… but now I do.
