It's only a poll but it shows clearly that governments who are still celebrating #fossilFuels today have not heard the bang.

"Today, the Barossa Production Operations Environment Plan was approved by the federal offshore petroleum regulator NOPSEMA, marking the final and most significant environmental approval for #Santos’ offshore Barossa gas project.
This approval permits Santos to emit 274 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over the 25 year life of the project.
Santos’ Barossa project has been described as one of the dirtiest gas projects in the world due to its high carbon dioxide content." - NT Enviro Centre press release

AI chip manufacturing derails climate progress in East Asia

A new report has identified a spike in the #electricity consumption rates of artificial intelligence (#AI) chip manufacturing by 350% since 2023.

The research paper, published by #Greenpeace East Asia, notes that East #Asia bears the brunt of the #ClimateImpact of AI chip manufacturing. Asian countries like #Taiwan and South #Korea are leading hubs for #semiconductor manufacturing but soaring electricity demand is denting #ClimateChange targets.

Semiconductor manufacturing plants in the region are turning to #FossilFuels to power their operation. The combined global #emissions from AI chip manufacturing in Asia Pacific, particularly South East Asia, could cause the region to miss out on its environmental #sustainability targets.

The Westridge Marine Terminal at the end point of the Trans Mountain Pipeline System in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025. ‘The more unequal the society is, the more severe the climate disaster’

"We are now on track to a three-degree world, which is still a world we absolutely do not want to live in...Capitalism as we know it now would be unviable. We are on track to tear it down by accident." Climatologist Friederike Otto

Why the UK’s electricity costs are so high.

One of Labour’s key election promises was to cut energy bills by £300 a year by 2030 while making Britain a “clean energy superpower”. The job is already halfway complete: renewable energy made up more than half the UK’s electricity for the first time last year.

So why does Britain continue to have one of the world's most expensive electricity markets?

This is an interesting moment with #Canada and #Australia both having national elections.

From what I can tell the dominant issues are the same:
-Housing
-Affordability
-Inflation
-Energy
and of course #Trump

The conservatives in both countries represent the #FossilFuels interests and are doing everything they can to discredit alternatives. Its a global effort.

The conservatives in both countries are basically racist misogynistic science denying assholes.

The Liberals in both countries are not terribly popular but are seen as the less bad option.
