I know Instagram is evil, but honestly, the Climate Liberation Aotearoa and 350 crew are killing it with the stuff they are posting about the #stocktonMine occupation (over 35 hours now!)

Here's a taster responding to Jones's ludicrous press release earlier today; but if you still have an account there, please give them some love because they are heroes and their posts are pure 🔥

Algeria and the other Saharan countries could literally lease a patch of the desert to other countries to generate their power.

We could have started on this with the Kyoto accord in the 90s.

We would have a global clean power grid by now.

But instead investors have fossil fuel companies and we have climate catastrophes.

We’re so smart.

Researchers found that a solar panel field the size of 1% of the Sahara is enough to meet global electricity needs

“So you would hand the country to PP and the Cons”

I saw that, brave replier, before you deleted it. I won’t call you out by name, that would be rude, but know this:

No one likes to be treated like an idiot, and when rabid Liberal supporters accuse NDP supporters of “handing” anything over to Conservatives by the simple act of voting for their party of choice, very likely in a riding where the NDP did and can win, you are not convincing anyone to vote Liberal.

Take a moment to do the calculation on how that helps beat mini-Trump.

The *most* disappointing thing I have seen from Carney in his remarks is his capitulation to the energy lobby.

Carney is extremely smart and has been deeply involved in, and even led, movements to end global economic dependence on fossil fuels.

So without question, HE KNOWS:
1) Solar and Wind are now the cheapest forms of energy to build in the world, by far.
2) Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is an illusion. (Bravo Blanchet for calling this out last night)
3) Natural Gas no longer displaces coal and oil, but renewables.
4) Canadian Oil and Gas have the highest CO2 factors of any source in the world, most countries, especially the EU, do not want it.

And yet he has been:

1) mute on solar/renewables
2) promising billions to CCS
3) promising billions to LNG
4) claiming we can sufficiently reduce CO2 from tar sands and fracking extraction.

These things all set fire to his environmental credibility.

At this point unless you are in the incumbent Green ridings, the NDP is the best environmental/climate pick, hands down.
