Howard Crosby, Presbyterian minister, writes on a healthy Christian. Pure religion (James 1:27, Matthew 25) is visiting the poor and suffering. Crosby says half of Christians in the world don’t do this, leave it up to charities. They forget this is a personal duty that no one can set aside without disobeying Jesus.

Would the figure of half in disobedience still prove true today?

How can you not forget personal duties?

Richard Allen, bishop in the AME church, writes on obedience. Avoiding debauchery, idleness, fraud, and neglect of family, is not the full Christian life. One who’d rest on those laurels needs to be asked, have you been charitable withal, in every situation?

Today, are we making charity an option, a distraction, from the marks of a life of Christian faithfulness?

How can you strive for praiseworthiness in every aspect of life?

[Psa 147:1-12, 14-20 NKJV] 1 Praise the LORD! For [it is] good to sing praises to our God; For [it is] pleasant, [and] praise is beautiful. 2 The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel. 3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. 4 He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name. 5 Great [is] our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding [is] infinite. 6 The LORD lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked down to the ground. 7 Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; Sing praises on the harp to our God, 8 Who covers the heavens with clouds, Who prepares rain for the earth, Who makes grass to grow on the mountains. 9 He gives to the beast its food, [And] to the young ravens that cry. 10 He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. 11 The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy. 12 Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! ... 14 He makes peace [in] your borders, [And] fills you with the finest wheat. 15 He sends out His command [to the] earth; His word runs very swiftly. 16 He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes; 17 He casts out His hail like morsels; Who can stand before His cold? 18 He sends out His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow, [and] the waters flow. 19 He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes and His judgments to Israel. 20 He has not dealt thus with any nation; And [as for His] judgments, they have not known them. Praise the LORD!

John Tillotson, Anglican Archbishop, writes on Lazarus (Luke 16), who starved and longed for crumbs from rich man’s table. A few mere CRUMBS would have hardly cost him anything, yet been a great kindness to Lazarus. The parable intimates the hard-heartedness of the rich man. Who ends up in hell.

Today, is modern conservatism all about hardening hearts against the needy?

How can you consider your crumbs, and the suffering around you?

Part of the interior of St Paul Ouside the Walls Basilica in Rome Italy. Enormous marble columns and beautiful gold mosaics. Above the door and over the columns on the right are some of the portraits of past popes.

John Jewel, Anglican bishop, write on praise of a church for their diligent love (1 Thes 1:3). The one who loves, underoes travails on behalf of the beloved, and lets loose some bounty. The Thessalonian church provided this love for saints in affliction, loss of goods, and banishment.

Has today’s conservative church forgotten love for the saints, as noted in the response to Christian Syrians?

How can you experience the travail of love?

…Ms. Waters, who recently co-wrote a #Heritage report on infertility.… has proposed directing the #NIH to expand its study of infertility & reproductive health conditions, including endometriosis. She has also proposed using govt funds to…*educate* #women on their #MenstrualCycles & their “natural fertility,” such as cycle-charting courses that many conservative #Christian women use to try to prevent pregnancy without using birth control [idiotic].

…Many #Christian #conservatives see declining birth & #marriage rates as a cultural crisis brought on by *forces* in politics & the media that they say belittle the *traditional* #family, encouraging #women to prioritize work over children. They are pushing for more committed marriages & large families, while some who identify strictly as “pronatalists”are interested in exploring a variety of methods, including new reproductive technologies, to reach their goal of more babies.[#Eugenics]

The longer I live within, study, and watch the ecclesial scene, the more I have become convinced over the years that any real hope for a effective and fruitful #ecumenism (that really will issue forth reunification of Churches) is going to be found in the episcopal system (i.e. #catholic #orthodox #anglican traditions). It has been hard coming to that conclusion as a #Reformed #christian but it had become increasingly obvious to me. The question is, are Christians who are not part of a #denomination with an episcopate willing to make that shift for the sake of following our Lord’s prayer: “that they all may be one” (John 17:21)? That is a question I have been asking myself.

Thomas Wilcox, English Puritan, urges charity to the poor, so as to relieve Christ [Mt 25:31ff]. Do NOT snoop about the recipient’s condition. He says that it is better to give many Counterfeits, than one needy should go unrelieved.

Nowadays, it’s more like the opposite: if an aspect of the work of a relief agency is not well understood, it’s better to make sure they go unfunded.

How can you relieve Christ in his Members?
