Joseph Meyer<p>I can’t think of anything intelligent to share this morning. Instead, I will share this photographic representation of my mind during an hour while I was under general anesthesia last week. <br><a href="https://c.im/tags/anesthesia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anesthesia</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/surgery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>surgery</span></a></p>
thezerobit<p>Today I learned that people with my condition are highly resistant to local anesthesia (LA), especially lidocaine which is only effective 8% of the time (!!) for people like me. Now I'm questioning every dental procedure I've white knuckled (literally). I've always just thought that local anesthesia just kind of sucks and that the nerves in your teeth are always going to cause shooting pain during certain procedures. Goddammit.</p><p><a href="https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6834718/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/</span><span class="invisible">PMC6834718/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://anticapitalist.party/tags/anesthesia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anesthesia</span></a> <a href="https://anticapitalist.party/tags/vEDS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vEDS</span></a> <a href="https://anticapitalist.party/tags/pain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pain</span></a></p>

🌱 Sustainable #anesthesia: #CharitéBerlin has reduced the annual CO2 emissions originating from gaseous anesthetics by over 80 percent since 2018. Using climate-friendlier anesthetics in the operating room was the key to success.

🥳 This saves ~6,000 metric tons of #CO2 a year, the equivalent of 300 average German households’ emissions, while also cutting costs – and benefiting patients as well.

"The bottom line: The fact that public scorn toward insurance executives could turn into violence is a startling reflection of how social media outrage can translate into real-world consequences. 'I would never have thought at that time that I needed security,' Udow-Phillips said of her time at BlueCross. 'Does this give permission to other people? It's terrifying.'"

Anyone else have a hard time the day after #anesthesia? (Propofol, Fentanyl, Xylocaine mix specifically?)

Sure I feel groggy (which I expected) but also like… disconnected from my body? Kind of like I didn’t quite land all the way back in my meat suit and am still floating juuuuust outside my body.

I don’t know if that makes ANY sense, but I figure if anyone will understand it’ll be my fedi friends :blobfoxheartcute:
