At least #Perplexity got one thing right:

Multiple
#independent #investigations and #leaked #internal #data confirm that #SocialMedia platforms—especially #Meta (#Facebook and #Instagram)—have engaged in #widespread, #systematic #censorship of #pro-Palestinian #content, often in direct response to #Israeli #government #requests[1][2][3][4][6][7]. This censorship has resulted in the #removal, #suppression, or #shadowbanning of tens of thousands of #posts and #accounts, with a disproportionate impact on users from Arab and Muslim-majority countries, but also affecting users worldwide[2][3][4][6].

Key points from the evidence:

- Meta has complied with 94% of Israeli government takedown requests since October 7, 2023, resulting in over 90,000 immediate removals and the suppression of millions more posts through automated systems[2][3][4][6].
- The vast majority of these requests targeted
#content #critical of #Israel or #supportive of #Palestinians, and only a tiny fraction targeted Israeli users[3][6].
-
#HumanRightsWatch and other NGOs have documented this as a #global, #systemic pattern of #censorship, not isolated incidents[1][5][7].
- There is no comparable evidence of systematic censorship or suspension for users expressing pro-Israeli views; the
#documented #bias overwhelmingly targets pro-Palestinian speech[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].

In summary, the documented reality is that pro-Palestinian views are aggressively censored on major social media sites, while pro-Israeli views do not face the same level of moderation or suppression. This creates a significant imbalance in the digital public sphere[1][2][3][4][6][7].

Human Rights Watch · Meta’s Broken PromisesThe 51-page report, “Meta’s Broken Promises: Systemic Censorship of Palestine Content on Instagram and Facebook,” documents a pattern of undue removal and suppression of protected speech including peaceful expression in support of Palestine and public debate about Palestinian human rights. Human Rights Watch found that the problem stems from flawed Meta policies and their inconsistent and erroneous implementation, overreliance on automated tools to moderate content, and undue government influence over content removals.

So I was just thinking about how I mindlessly go to the same few websites every few minutes-hours, seeings boring stuff, and then moving on to do something else.

The Internet just feels so empty. Sure, there are some good Youtube videos for entertainment, and I have found some nice music or the occasional animation on Newgrounds, but honestly I feel like I'm just not finding anything, "real" for lack of a better word.

And whenever I look around the fediverse, I either see very technical posts of networking that I don't understand, porn, bots, or basic art made to sell you something or just isn't impressive.

I tried looking at different hashtags and honestly nothing really interests me.

So if you know of any cool accounts that post interesting things that feel real, let me know. Even if it's just text posts, as long as it, again I lack the words to truly describe it, but feel real and actually interesting, then please add them to a reply.

Apple ordered to open encrypted user #accounts globally to UK #spying

The #secret order would give the UK access to #encrypted #backups belonging to any user — not just Brits.

Apple has reportedly been ordered by the #UK #government to create a backdoor that would give #security officials access to users’ encrypted #iCloud backups. If implemented, #British security services would have access to the backups of any user #worldwide, not just Brits, and #Apple would not be permitted to alert users that their #encryption was compromised.

I really love amazing finds, hence:

Please stop recommending or listing #Fediverse #accounts that are literally dead, and in ruins.

Just because somebody "secured" their name by signing up with an arbitrary server, back in May 2023, and posted twice (1. "Hello", 2."I'm so going to switch to Mastodon!") doesn't make their cadaver account worth following.

Recommend a living person instead that chooses to post, once in while. There is ample choice of fabulous people here!

Thank you for not wasting my time with disappointments.

(Boost appreciated.)
