Qt 6.9 is the latest version, so why is the Trinity Desktop Environment still stuck on Qt3?

Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) version R14.1.4 uses a fork of Qt3, specifically known as TQt3. Trinity maintains its own version of TQt3, which is developed and maintained independently by the TDE team.

(Well done, KDE! In my experience, the biggest issue with Plasma has always been the amount of annoying bugs and crashes, which kind of negated the experience for me, despite the cool extra features and the extensive customization options. Trinity DE R14.1.4 released!

A new version of Trinity Desktop Environment has been released as of yesterday with the version of R14.1.4. This version is a minor bug fix release that has the following changes, including, but not limited to:

  • support for Unicode surrogate characters and planes above zero (for example emojis)
  • new modern vector wallpapers and new color themes
  • new control module to manage deb/rpm alternatives
  • tab support in kpdf
  • better context menu for tderandrtray and fixes to the handling of gamma settings
  • clickable links in calendar events
  • support for transparency, top and shadow borders and inactive windows in Dekorator
  • better integration of kxkb with setxkbmap, new options and various fixes for the tray feedback
  • ability to create VPN connections in tdenetworkmanager once again
  • several improvements to the codeine player
  • support for Ubuntu Plucky and upcoming Fedora 43
