How to make it compatible with the <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/ParisAgreements" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ParisAgreements</span></a>?</p><p>Several IRAP researchers (including <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://astrodon.social/@jknodlseder" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>jknodlseder</span></a></span> ) have quantified the <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/CarbonFootprint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CarbonFootprint</span></a> of astronomical observatories and <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/SpaceMissions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpaceMissions</span></a>. The results are indisputable: emissions are following an upward trend, largely dominated by space missions. How can this tendency be reversed?</p><p>Researchers have put forward several ideas: <a href="https://www.irap.omp.eu/en/2024/08/when-the-stars-fade-astronomy-and-its-carbon-footprint/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">irap.omp.eu/en/2024/08/when-th</span><span class="invisible">e-stars-fade-astronomy-and-its-carbon-footprint/</span></a></p>
Hugh Osborn<p>It's always interesting to see insights into how <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/SpaceMissions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpaceMissions</span></a> run. For example, at the recent <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/NASA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NASA</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/TESS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TESS</span></a> meeting, the onboard software folks were experimenting with getting higher compression rates for data... by installing gzip on the onboard processor. I guess if something works well, don't overcomplicate it!</p>
Kathy Mandt (she/her)<p>I’m so fortunate to have a career working on <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/NASA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NASA</span></a> and <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/ESA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ESA</span></a> <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/spacemissions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spacemissions</span></a>.
