Mehrad :kde: :emacs: :rstats:<p>My biggest struggle when contributing to a project that uses git send-email (e.g., things on <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/sourcehut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sourcehut</span></a>) is that when the patch is sent, it is as if I'm shouting in a void. There is no way to know if someone else have done the same patch or if I have even sent emailed it to the correct address.</p>

I support you. Fight this fight for me. I'm too small/busy/specialized, but you can do it! I care."</p><p>That's why I struggle with these lovely open source alternatives my original question is about. What these projects care about? What's their added value?</p>

Both are EU-based.</p><p>I no longer think it's ethical to expect my contributors to agree to share personal data for marketing and advertising purposes, which the GitHub Privacy Statement says they do.</p><p>That's in addition to worries about centralized control over most FOSS dev, Microsoft's corporate policies, and the underlying US politics and surveillance.</p>

My primary git hosting is my home network, secondary is <a href="https://aus.social/tags/SourceHut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SourceHut</span></a> (US/EU) which is retro and minimalist, but I see many projects now starting/moving to <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://social.anoxinon.de/@Codeberg" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Codeberg</span></a></span> (EU). <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://floss.social/@forgejo" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>forgejo</span></a></span> is the self-hostable software that powers Codeberg.</p>
