Exciting development in theoretical physics! Professor Ginestra Bianconi of Queen Mary University of London proposes a novel framework deriving gravity from quantum relative entropy, potentially unifying quantum mechanics and general relativity. This approach introduces the G-field, offering fresh insights into dark matter and the universe's accelerated expansion.

Dr. Ana Alonso-Serrano is a long-term vistor at @mpi_grav Potsdam.

She has worked on several aspects at the interface of quantum mechanics and general relativity. Nowadays, she is focused on the study the quantum behavior of spacetime close to the classical singularities and phenomenology of quantum gravity.

The challenge of uniting Einstein’s gravity with quantum mechanics remains a profound enigma. General relativity describes gravity on a cosmic scale, while quantum mechanics governs subatomic particles. Yet when strong gravitational fields come into play—such as near black holes—attempts to blend the two break down. Does this mismatch point to a deeper theory beyond our current models? The search continues, hinting that reality may weave together in ways we have yet to grasp. #QuantumGravity

What if gravity is quantum? Marletto & Vedral propose an experiment to entangle particles through gravity alone, inspired by Marletto's Constructor Theory. The results would allow us to decide, if I understand correctly, whether gravity is quantum or not… It’s important… it’s a bit like the Bell inequality experiments by Aspect; this experiment will allow us to settle this question. Fascinating! #QuantumGravity #Physics youtube.com/watch?v=Uey_mUy1vN

I haven't worked in #physics since my undergraduate studies, but I still enjoy articles like this about the cutting edge of the discipline. Experimental design to collect empirical evidence for #quantumgravity, not currently practical, but maybe in the next 10-20 years. I've always thought of the topic as a purely theoretical endeavour with no hope of experimental validation.

…"Moving from #physics to #philosophy we use the same methods. It's helpful, this kind of analytic trying to deduce things and solve the arguments, and with the same sort of satisfaction, too … In the same way that you see a philosophical argument and you know that something's wrong with it"…

#ICYMI: The lectures from this year's International Congress of Mathematical Physics in Strasbourg, France, are online now.

Here's the talk “E10 and K(E10): searching for a fundamental symmetry of physics” by Hermann Nicolai, director emeritus at the @mpi_grav in Potsdam, head of the ERC-funded research group “Exceptional Quantum Gravity”.
