I haven't been very active on Twitter for a while, so I'm going to give it a go here!

1. I'm Amy from MO, and I teach Alg 2, Trig, Stats, College Algebra, Calculus, & Foundations of Education at Knox County HS.

2. PIE!, then cake, then donuts

3. I enjoy painting, drawing, hiking, and baking.

1) I'm Sarah from Virginia. I'll be teaching Algebra I and Geometry to middle schoolers this year. I've just started to set up my classroom - students don't return until the 28th.
2) Pies, donuts, cakes is my preferred ranking order. Nothing better than fresh apple pie a la mode!
3) I like to cook, read, and work on house projects.

I'm catching up here!

1. I'm Ella Hereth and I teach in Indianapolis, IN. I'm a department lead in a middle school and also teach 8th grade math/algebra. This will be my 13th year in math education.

2. Pies>Cakes>Donuts

3. I like gardening and have slowly been ripping out aging invasive landscaping around my house (those 1960s landscapers loved their English Ivy and Wintercreeper) and replacing it with native plants. Here's a pic of my progress. I also have a 5 yo and a 9 yo who take up alot of my time.

along with and .

I've been off of Twitter and for too long! Thank you @jreulbach and @samjshah for getting it started again. I started teaching at a public school in NJ last year after teaching 22 years in a private school setting. Currently, I teach 8th grade Pre-A and Alg. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, gardening, playing games, and spending time with my family. And if I had to rate the following items, I would put them in this order: pies, cakes, donuts.

Hi!
1) I'm Marissa and I am a high school math teacher in IL (northern suburb of Chicago). I've taught all sorts of classes over the last 10 years, but this year I'll be teaching Algebra 1 and Algebra 2/Trig. I also sponsor Girls Who Code.
2) Pies (specifically with fruit), then donuts, then cakes but just for the frosting
3) Outside the classroom I am a percussionist and percussion instructor for my husband's high school band program. I speak French and never miss a day of Duolingo. I also spend a lot of time with my German Shepherd and watch plenty of TV.

Hi all!
1) I am a HS math teacher in central Massachusetts, currently teaching AP Calculus BC and Algebra II. I am also our school's math team coach and ref field hockey games

2) The only sweets that can tempt me are good chocolate ice cream and brownies :)

3) Outside of teaching, I love going on adventures with my kids, traveling, bicycling, hiking, gardening and landscape design, and creating memories with family and friends

This week will be fun and frivolous in the best kind of way, dear peeps who love math and teaching! We’re going to do two things. We’re going to play “Some truths and maybe a lie?” and also you’ll share a photograph from your phone that brings you joy -- and explain why.

In your post:
1. Write down three facts about yourself, but one, two, or all three can be lies!
2. Share your photo and explain why it brings you joy.
3. Tag your post with and

Of course the whole point of this is to get people talking! So after you post, look around at other posts with the hashtag and make a guess! Are any of them lies? All of them? Bonus fake points if you start talking with someone you’ve never talked to.

As always, to practice using mathstodon, two challenges. First, find a new hashtag based on one of your interests that people are posting with (for example, ) and “follow it” so it shows up in your timeline. Then share it with the community in case others are interested.

Second, many of you have been using the official mastodon app, but (@jreulbach and @samjshah) have tried many apps and we’re loving IceCube for iPhones: apps.apple.com/us/app/ice-cube. So our first suggestion is to check that out!

If you have any ideas for future prompts or ways to build community, please DM @samjshah and @jreulbach! We’d love help keeping the conversations happening!

[Note: If you want to know what the previous prompts were, you can read them here samjshah.com/2023/07/04/lets-g and you can also search for and to see the replies!]

I am Sara Vaughn, aka @vaughn_trapped. I teach 8th grade math, so that's been anything from Inclusion Math 8 through algebra 2. I currently teach Integrated Maths 1 and 2.
I love pie -- making it as well as eating it. A couple summers ago I was on a quest to make the perfect crust. Doughnuts likely beat cake for me, but I am starting to like more cakes lately. I remember the rare occasions when I was little that my mom would make doughnuts. Doughnut holes are my favorite!
Outside of class, I enjoy cooking, sewing and felting. I am a fairly new felter, but I love it. You never really know how something is going to turn out!

1) Hello, I am a HS math teacher in SoCal. I've taught everything from Basic Math (back in the day) to precalculus. Looking forward to teaching AP Precalculus in the fall.

2) First apple pie, second donut and third cake

3) Outside of the classroom, I am a soccer mom. With 2 boys playing club, there's very little down time. Between practices, league games and tournaments, we are busy all year long. In addition to that, I became the photographer for the two teams. I enjoy capturing the soccer action and recording images of my boys doing what they love.

Thanks @jreulbach and @samjshah for bringing us together.

I would love to pick your brain on @Mathvice I attempted it last year but I know it could be better.

Hello! I'm Anna and I've been teaching all sorts of middle and high school math to kids and sometimes working with math teachers for 20 years. I fell in love with math in college and the romance is still going strong, after all these years 😍🥰 I now live in beautiful Boulder, Colorado after a decade in the Bay area and another two decades in Chicago.

For fun outside the classroom, I love to run on trails, climb (indoor and outside), do yoga, watch movies and play board games with my family, read all the things, and go to music festivals with friends. I've got a kiddo starting 10th grade so I'm also trying to maximize time together before he grows all the way up.

Hi all! I've been teaching for 17 years-math at first, but now full time computer science, in Texas. I'm equal opportunity on the sweets. When not doing nerdy/teaching things, I enjoy running, cycling, or almost anything outside. Excited for the potential mastodon has for connecting with other teachers! #classroommath #prompt1
