My recent obsession with the #OscarMamen travel logs of his journey(s) to & time in #Mongolia #BogdKhanate, I wrangled data from a photo archive database.
For unknown reasons, the database doesn't have a field for "date". All date info is stored alongside content descriptions of the photos and their location in the physical archive in the free-text field "motive description".
To work through 7.500 photos + matching them to log entries, I re-taught myself #regex & @OpenRefine

New open-access paper! A team including Dr. Darla Zelenitsky (UCalgary) describes Duonychus tsogtbaatari, a bizarre two-fingered therizinosaur from Cretaceous Mongolia. Its huge claws and reduced fingers provide new insight into theropod evolution and forelimb reduction. Exceptional fossil preservation even shows the keratin sheath on the claws! Combining proof-reading with textual markup and manual entity recognition, it becomes the perfect hyper focus activity.
I use #Transkribus for my #HTR and for the last few days, I have been unlucky with the traffic for both model training and text recognition. The queues are long and take a lot of time and I am deprived of my error hunting and current hyper fixation on #Mongolia #BogdKhanate #EasternChina #TravelDiaries #TEI #Encoding
