Part of the surprising news from China today are new rules about chip makers like Intel and Texas Instruments. Many of which have factories both in the US and China. Complicating matters many US owned chipmakers ship intermediate and raw materials between their factories.

Today I've finally taken a serious stab at the #alesis #micron I've really only used as a "master keyboard" a few times. Some months ago I played with the synth engine and found that it's not actually THAT hard to program, but I DO have a programmer on order that might make that even simpler in the future. No, today was all about getting the multi-timbral stuff working with the #elektron #digitakt sequencing. And yes, the #micron has a few ideas that are "strange" to the #roland person in me but I eventually figured it out. It's actually quite nice! Only "problem" is that the #micron only has 8 voices and "voice stealing" kicks in rather quickly when you have three parts going. On the other hand, I'd expect it to play at most two parts in most jams, and maybe not the most polyphonic ones, after all I have #roland boxes for that.

So that's just an Alesis Micron (yes, it's a little beat up, but not too bad) going into the Elektron Digitakt. What's nice is that you can edit the effects for each MIDI part on the Micron directly so there's less need for additional FX gear (but it would help though, the effects are not THAT great). Since I want to play stuff with the Micron's keyboard AND sequence the Micron with the Digitakt, we have the weird scenario that "local control" is disabled; MIDI is sent from the Micron to the Digitakt and depending on what channel is selected there, that instrument is controlled; which in case of a MIDI channel that goes back to the Micron is the corresponding MIDI part in the Micron's "Setup" as they call it. Puh!
