went to another tagaytay wedding this weekend! first stop was bag of beans. if you're visiting this area this is always a good spot for breakfast.

On a blue glass top table with pink and purple patterns, on top of a pair of cotton placemats casually folded in half so that only the reverse side of the weave is visible, in shades of red-purple, blue, green, and yellow: a plastic container (obtained from a takeout delivery) with an etched steel fork jutting out, full of noodles stir-fried with okra and tomato, layered with scrambled egg with coriander greens on top. This was today's brunch to celebrate Venus stationing direct. The friable (!) mass of creamy yellow scrambled egg has somehow blocked out about 97% of the noodles from view. Only the bright deep green of the okra and coriander greens, and rich red of the tomato are generally discernible. Amateur presentational skill on my part, my apologies.

This is a breakfast porridge of friendship, because brown rice still needs a bit of a push from something like an immersion blender and I've been using the one I got from my friend when we were in uni and then I mixed in the pickled spicy mustard greens a friend just got from me from their Japan trip (pretty sure it's the shop in Harajuku). Added a glug of olive oil too.

A bowl of porridge as described in the post. The ceramic bowl is white with blue trim, the soup spoon is tacky and cute (cat shaped on the bowl so it's got ears, with a tail handle that's got a ribbon near the end). There's a soup container with the same porridge too that I'm bringing to work.

A small plate with two slices of rosemary wholemeal bread (you can't tell but it's toasted and buttered), inundated with thin slices of japanese cucumber with even more slices on the plate. The ones on the bread has a smattering of toum sauce on it.

this drink is called the elsa latté for obvious reasons. the blue curaçao syrup gives it a citrus kick and a floral aftertaste.

The spiciest I've been this week is realizing the butter I got on promotion seems to be a bit more rich in milk fat than usual so I added half a tablespoon more to my wholemeal bread... And going ham on the rosemary. #MakanApaToday (also I have no balsamic vinegar so settled for pomegranate with olive oil)

Steamed buns (@pinoy|s call them "siopao", our adopted version of the bao buns) are popular snacks, or maybe a light meal in many parts of Asia.

In the #Philippines, the color marking on the bun is an extra indicator of the filling: red, yellow, or in this case green.

Are there "standard" color codes in your region? The one in the photo is their vegetarian version.

A green "dot" marks this steamed bun as having vegetarian fillings. The photo is in black and white, except for the spot where the green is.

Tonight's dinner was chicken sandwich with a side of greens. The stars of this show were the sweet, ripe mango cubes and the mustard dill sauce I generously smothered on the bread. Yum!
