Adam MacLeod<p>Trying this again, since I got no answers last time, and only one confirmation that I'm not alone in seeing this behaviour:<br>For whatever reason, the JAWS "Check For Updates" menu option under the Help menu is always unavailable when running Windows and JFW in a virtual machine on a Qemu-KVM hypervisor.<br>What I'd love to know is if anyone knows if this is a bug or feature? If bug, is FS even aware of it? Any planned fixes? They refuse to get the voice on there, as it is not legal, and my principal complained about internet requests the driver would make. Is there a way to get the eloquence voice in a different, legal way? Don't mind the price. Can you, for example, use the voice data from Jaws somehow? I'd really appreciate answers. Generell haben hier einige meinen Wechsel, den ich ja schon vor Jahren vollzogen habe, etwas verpennt. Das ist ja aber grundsätzlich nicht schlimm. Ich frage mich viel mehr, warum wir in Deutschland allen, die irgendwie etwas mit dem Thema zu tun haben, inkl. Kindern, die neu eingeschult werden, so wie mir damals, versuchen zu verkaufen, dass JAWS die Lösung ist.<br>Der SR, der unnötig viele Ressourcen beansprucht, früher auf meinem alten Rechner täglich Fehler ausspuckte und eine dreist teure Lizenz verlangt. Für nichts, was <a href="https://someplace.social/tags/NVDA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NVDA</span></a> nicht auch kann. Etwas, das ein Recht sein sollte und nicht hinter Paywalls für Hunderte, wenn nicht Tausende € gesperrt gehört.</p>

My <a href="https://allovertheplace.ca/tags/university" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>university</span></a> provides <a href="https://allovertheplace.ca/tags/Perrla" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Perrla</span></a> for free to students, but it doesn't seem to be the most <a href="https://allovertheplace.ca/tags/accessible" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>accessible</span></a> with <a href="https://allovertheplace.ca/tags/ScreenReaders" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ScreenReaders</span></a>, at least not the online version. I haven't tried the add-on for <a href="https://allovertheplace.ca/tags/MicrosoftWord" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MicrosoftWord</span></a>. With the online version, though, I don't see any keyboard shortcuts, and when you move into the edit box to start writing a paper, focus gets trapped there and it's hard to get out, so I don't think it's the best tool for me. I'm not sure when it started, but mine is completely inaccessible. Anytime I try to use PictureSmart, FS Companion, or anything else that uses the results viewer, it opens, but I can't read anything. JAWS won't do anything while on that window, and escape doesn't close it like it should. I tried repairing JAWS but that didn't fix anything, so I'm wondering if it's a script I use causing the problem. The only scripts I have installed are Leasey and the Zoom pro scripts by <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://dragonscave.space/@brian_hartgen" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>brian_hartgen</span></a></span> and a few scripts for things like Discord and Unigram by Doug Lee.
