Why are plankton ecologists *so excited about the launch of #NASA PACE #satellite? Because: Plankton Aerosol Cloud #ocean Ecosystem. It is a giant step forward for #phytoplankton id because the new Ocean Color Instrument (OCI) is #hyperspectral, meaning it can image ultraviolet to visible & visible to near-infrared at 5nm resolution 🤓! Big news because previous satellites only saw a few colors. OCI can now identify algae pigments! #Climate

Finnish company, Kuva Space has been awarded with a €5 million commercial contract to be the sole provider of hyperspectral data services for the European Commission's Copernicus Contributing Missions (CCM) program. The Kuva Space technology is utilized to monitor farming and aquaculture crops, forests, methane release, and harmful algae blooms. Collected data is helping in decision making related to the global issues.
