GB Energy was always just a wet dream from some Labour policy writer. Full of ‘hints’ of promises, none of which will ever be achieved (or frankly were ever intended to be so). Meanwhile a lot of Scottish voters bought into that (and Grangemouth and Austerity)

The Guardian · GB Energy needs full £8.3bn of funding or it will disappoint, government toldBy Jillian Ambrose

“Just look at the assets. Access to the North Sea. A deep sea port. An effective grid connection. Infrastructure links to the northeast. A strategic location midway between Scotland’s two major cities. World-class universities. A skills pipeline for the future.”

Somebody must have pointed to a map and showed him where Grangemouth is.

The National · Keir Starmer pledges £200 million for GrangemouthBy Xander Elliards

Gawd. Labour are very cheap to buy - even the Tories (and in that little nasty coterie, the Hamilton's) asked for more money.

And unlike Holyrood they can and will 'fart in our faces' when called out about it.

Just looking at the flame burning atop one of the release vents as the merest indicator of how much CO2 pollution the site emits, I'll not be sad to see the whole place close next year.
The environment for all comes before jobs for a few.

The closure of #Grangemouth would further reduce #refining capacity in the UK.

As refining has been (in the past) a particular bottleneck in #petrol supply, the move for it to become an import processing plant for #LNG and also to some extent an exporter of LNG-derivitives, may shift the landscape of #energy distribution in the UK.

The Q. is whether this is a problem for 'energy security', a welcome kick towards the transition to #electricvehicles or just the consequence of foreign ownership?

Climate Camp wraps up after Ineos confrontation
Following well-organised protests at the site of Scotland's biggest polluter the camp at Kinneil, Grangemouth has been tidied away and legal support is now ongoing for nine people who were detained over the weekend.

The camp was sited just a mile away from Ineos' headquarters to the east of Grangemouth, a
