I would like to upload the code to storyseedlibrary.org/ Solarpunk art library publicly and accept Pull Requests with any suggestions / submissions people have.

The repository is roughly ~200 MB, can grow up to ~500 in the future.

What would be the best platform to do it, balancing Solarpunk's #floss philosophy with user-friendliness?

@nekohayo I teach courses on "how *not* to use AI" and attacks on opensource project infrastructure through crawlers is a whole section. If by chance you are an actual admin of the @gnome GitLab instance, you have now awareness: this search UI configuration in your instance, regardless for crawler mitigation or otherwise, is counter productive. Apologies if that came out a bit snarky, didn't want to complain.

If you join the GNOME GitLab instance and you want to create or fork a project, you'll see an error that says:
"Limit has been reached You cannot create projects in your personal namespace. Contact your GitLab administrator."

Turns out, you have to add an SSH key to make it work.

GitLab Forum · I can't create or fork any projects (free account)yes, you are correct. It is happening on gitlab.gnome.org but not on gitlab.com (I can create a project there) thank you for the clue, I will ask on the gnome forum. Much appreciated!

@sirber ... Bare metal in this case is more challenging because I wanted one well-speced Windows VM and one well-speced Ubuntu VM and I couldn't figure out how to reliably run Windows 11 in a VM in VMWare or VirtualBox. My "Fuck it! I know that Hyper-V can do it!" means that the host is running Windows Server ... and things like #GitLab apparently don't run reliably in Docker on Windows. 🤷‍♂️ You win some and you lose some.

Ah, yes. As is the way, the shitty new tracking feature is opt-out instead of opt-in, because they know that hardly anybody will voluntarily send more data.

In this case, it's gitlab which is adding some event tracking to 18.0 - about.gitlab.com/blog/2025/03/

I'll give them credit for introducing an opt-out toggle in the version before it goes live, but I would think that “a strong focus on privacy” would lean towards it being opt-in…

At lot has changed in the last 10 years but Coocook always has been a web application based on #Perl with #CatalystFramework and #DBIxClass. These frameworks didn’t move fast but proved to be rock solid! 💪

In the meantime we integrated other components like #Bootstrap and infrastructure like #GitLab with CI and #Docker for easier development (soon: also deployment). Fast moving #Javascript libraries have caused many more problems than the mature Perl ecosystem.

#OnThisDay 10 years ago @dboehmer started the development of Coocook! 🥳 Today it’s a #FOSS project with a handful of active contributors and Coocook.org/ is a free web platform that can be used by anyone to provide food for group events with volunteer work.

We have a lot of fun making Coocook and will continue to improve the UI to make it easier to plan cooking for everyone! 🚀
