Ok, so,
today I'm noticing that my "brushes" and "toolbox" windows seem to keep disappearing every time I switch from Gimp to another app in the same desktop or switch to a different virtual desktop. So, every time I come back to #Gimp, I have to click on the "windows" menu and reactivate the "brushes" and "toolbox" windows. Wasn't doing that yesterday. Really flow-breaking (even more than the previously-noted changes).

GIMP: Codeschmuggel-Lücke in Versionszweig 2

Im Grafikprogramm GIMP können Angreifer zwei Sicherheitslücken zum Einschleusen von Schadcode missbrauchen. Der Umstieg auf GIMP 3 schützt.

@eri okay but while it's actually been my preferred photo editor for over a decade - the gimp team constantly makes decisions that are... Extremely questionable at best, and the choices of what drawing tools to include are just as affected by this.
#Gnome as a whole has a "we know better" attitude to UX and #gimp takes it furthest of all.
I prefer the #KDE approach: sane defaults but you can customize everything. The most user friendly workflow is unique to each user.

How do I make an animated .GIF from a video clip?!?!

I want a program that installs locally on my PC.

Other than #Photoshop this appears to be impossible. EVERYTHING I find is about using some online website or an app on the phone.

Apparently at one time you could use #GIMP by installing GAP (Gimp Animation Package) and that would allow for video clips but that has not been maintained for some time.

Any suggestions for #Windows or #Linux programs?

Returned back to Gimp 2.10 from 3.0.2.

The default ink-tool acted more like spray paint when using wacom on 3, while the defaults were fine with 2. (Worked fine with mouse, so the problem is the pressure sensitivity.)

Couldn't find any actual advancements between the two versions.

Would have stuck with 3 and tried to find solution by twittling settings, but the software kept crashing repeatedly when I did that, so I was stuck with the out-of-the-box -experience.

Mozilla launches Thundermail, a Gmail alternative email service with @thundermail email addresses, and Thunderbird Pro, which includes appointment scheduler, file sharing tools, and AI-powered features (Thunderbird Assist):

(POV it will be killed off after a short time like other Mozilla products lol. There's already Proton Mail, a privacy-focused mail service from a company with a better track record, more than 100 million users, also Tuta for those who don't mind it not being fully FOSS, so I don't really think Thundermail has a shot here, but nice try regardless, at least they try to have some source of income other than Google.)

Firefox 137 released with HEVC playback support on Linux, ability to identify all links in PDF files and turn them into hyperlinks, new options in the Browser Layout section under General settings (vertical tabs, show sidebar); some progressively rolled out features: sign PDF documents, calculator feature for address bar (now you don't have to open the Console tab of dev tools for that lol), tab grouping:

Firefox 138 beta available new contrast control (same colors for all websites) setting, support for copying links for background tabs using the tabstrip context menu on Linux and macOS, more tab grouping features, new “Report broken site” feature, etc.:

Midori browser gets new ad blocker (Astian Privacy, also available for other Firefox-based browsers), VPN service (utilizing WireGuard, with OpenVPN support planned), search engine AstianGO now has its own indexing:
