For those just tuning in:
One hundred thousand more cops was also an intensification.
This is exactly what the role of the media is supposed to be in democracy. Support journalists and media with integrity or we lose them.

So, yeah, that perp walk by the NYPD, with cop mayor presiding?
Spectacle, to divert attention from this:
"At the DBK4 delivery station in Queens, New York, cops swarmed and arrested an Amazon driver who stopped his van in support of the strike. Then they forcibly broke the picket line. In anticipation of a possible strike at JFK8, police had camped out by the facility in advance."

Hearing and vote on the mask ban were first and second items on agenda, so presumably it's the 9:30 a.m. link.
Edit: It was a seven hour hearing, so it's both the morning and afternoon sessions.
"Those over the age of 16 will not be allowed to wear masks, unless it is being worn for the person’s health, religion or celebratory purposes. Officials say police will be the ones to determine whether or not the masks are being used for those purposes."
[Video shows police bodily hauling a masked person out of the legislative meeting.]
LA considering throwing a third of a million dollars to a mercenary gang to put down future protests against genocide and ethnic cleansing...
'Murica. #FifthEstate
@StillIRise1963 @TCatInReality they know exactly what their job is.
Our mistake was in thinking that that the #fifthestate was beyond #capture tactics.
No longer a matter of anti-Black vagrancy laws and moral panic about hobos, no amount of then existing #FifthEstate power cloud sweep away 15 million unemployed and their families.
1934 saw only 10% more strikes than the year before, with 1.4 million strikers—or 1% of national population. Labor activity only really took off with the Wagner Act of, notably, 1935. Non-agriculture union membership, alone, would then quadruple in the next decade, climbing from 3% to ~9% of national population.

Fighting mask bans is fighting fascism.
Fighting eugenics is fighting fascism.
Keeping one another safe is fighting fascism.
Fighting health supremacism is fighting fascism.
Fighting suppression of protest is fighting fascism.
Keeping the #FifthEstate from getting even more power is fighting fascism.
Nonetheless, wearing a mask in public is not about "privacy" (except in Roe doctrine sense).
Misinformation that masks hurt surveillance marks police and legislators as rubes.
Leverage that.
Which is to say, when we say to the world, "But have you seen our police‽" Yes, they have.
They've also seen our devotional politics, our #KayfabePanto. Far more than they would care to.
They've likewise seen our oligarchs, common enough, and far more strikingly, our #perquisitive #classposture.
For how—with our empire of consensus media—could they not?
It is the five estates, not merely the #FifthEstate, that together uphold #tensegrity
Police are but one beam of a whole to be dismantled.
Yes, Usian #FifthEstate has unprecedented power as compared to police as experienced in other places and times.
Absent a concerted check on systems of power, a massive disruption of and dismantling of all the five estates of #RentierSociety, the fifth estate will only further concentrate and intensify its unrivaled capacity for violence.
Generations of #tensegrity ratchet will not be unwound easily. Nonetheless a system that harnesses gravity to hold itself aloft offers no promise of collapse.
Early on in our current era of apologism, there was a narrative that masks were detrimental to social interaction because folk couldn't see one another smile.
This despite the fact that a true smile is in the eyes, not the lips.
Now we're at stage where the narrative is that masks prevent identification by the #FifthEstate.
This despite the fact that, once again, identity is found more in the eyes than in the mouth, the nose or the chin.
Almost as if being seen was always about how we see.
"We should ALL be pushing back because if this bill stands it’ll be the first of many just like it. Other States and countries will adopt similar laws and it will embolden those who seek to harm people who are still masking and/or disabled. It’s going to further divide and segregate society along health lines - a very slippery slope into eugenics."

@beadsland @DaywalkingRedhead so how do you think the #FifthEstate will deal with a unilaterally disarmed target? Do you figure they're just too lazy and incompetent to wipe us out?
@davidfetter @DaywalkingRedhead
That "we" task #FifthEstate with this is on us.
Gesticulating toward any of the estates of #RentierSociety—asserting who we narrate to be in control—does not address fact that they retain power.
Capitalist realism is fatalism of the modern-day cynic.
Just as we will not "common sense" our way out of this, we accomplish nothing throwing up our hands, declaring powerlessness in face of oppression.
Such obeisance to narrative being the topic of my above thread.
So, just to be clear, #Hochul, Governor of New York State, axed a long-negotiated congestion pricing plan for #NYC…
Not to protect any so-called "middle class" (some share of the 2.5% of city center workers who commute into the city), but to protect the 40% of NYC city center cops who commute into the city.
Because, in case anyone forgot, it has been long-standing policy that the cops who police our neighborhoods NOT be residents of those neighborhoods.
