While exploring a nebula, Cerritos picked up some biofluorescent organisms that feed on Hydrogen and are now playing havoc with the starboard nacelle.

In reality, the black electrical tape that I glued over the green nav SMD has come loose (I’m guessing thanks to a certain black cat who knocked the model over a while back) and now the green light comes through the Bussard. Bugger. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@kuenefe not all use git though. I'd suggest any instance you're already part of, or Codeberg, to get started unless you want to go the selfhosted route. The main advantage of Codeberg for now is, many people are already there so they won't have to create a new account just for your project 👤

TBH I'm just waiting for #federation to be mature enough that that's not an issue. Then I'll probably go full sefhosted!

My main gripe about #BlueSky is not what they are, but what they claim to be, but not are. They keep talking about #federation as the way to avoid the "big hubs" like X / Facebook, yet I struggle to find anything about how they actually aim to provide anything that will prevent this.

Reading some of the stuff they write about it, is big words and lotsa investor babble. But despite having at least some tech understanding (working developing net based services), I cannot quite map what they promise to how they will make it.

I have a feeling that they will stumble in the fact that there isn't really much of a business model, at least enough to attract investors, in building federated social media. If bsky spend a ton of effort building something others can just "take and use", the others will have a clear advantage over bsky, not having the investment to build it.

Bsky seem to lack a dependable business model. For now it seems to be "become a payment platform".

Am I missing something?

@eloy This is one reason I do not use #Signal, it is essentially a (presumably benevolent) dictatorship, where a single party controls the network and wards off 3rd party clients and even modified versions of the signal client. The client code is open-source, but the network effectively limits your FOSS freedoms anyway.

I prefer to use #Matrix, which has many clients, supports #federation and is nice to use. Of course it has issues, but those are (IMHO) implementation issues, not fundamental...

Did you ever hear about MatrixRooms.info ? It's a demo instance of MRS (Matrix Rooms Search) - a search engine of #matrix #rooms across #federation we're developing for a while.

The website got numerous updates, including a community spotlight for small-yet-promising rooms, search relevancy options, and even (finally!) a 1-click form to add your own #matrix server!
