I just learned from another classical guitarist's experience that YouTube's AI identifies a video as a possible copyvio if it finds a previous video using the same melody.

They'll overturn it on appeal (usually), but what a pain for classical musicians! Most of the repertoire has long been in the Public Domain for years (more often, centuries).

Basically, they're forcing users to train their AI for them by hurling out false allegations.

fedi.rib.gayRib :ms_red_panda: (@Rib)Today Melissa Lewis over on BlueSky pointed out that the font used in the infamous "You wouldn't steal a car" anti-piracy campaign was actually designed by Just van Rossum, whose brother, Guido, created the Python programming language (https://bsky.app/profile/melissa.news/post/3ln7hx5rhcj2v) She also pointed out that the font had been cloned and released illegally for free under the name "XBAND Rough". Naturally, it would be hilarious if the anti-piracy campaign actually turned out to have used this pirated font, so I went sleuthing and quickly found a PDF from the campaign site with the font embedded (https://web.archive.org/web/20051223202935/http://www.piracyisacrime.com:80/press/pdfs/150605_8PP_brochure.pdf). So I chucked it into FontForge and yep, turns out the campaign used a pirated font the entire time! 📎

Yeah, that's "the solution" (sarcasm): #OpenAI is going to buy #Chrome to stop #Alphabet from monopolizing the search market with #Google integrated in this #WebBrowser.

First of all, stopping Google's monopolization–or that of #Meta/ #Facebook, #Twitter / #X, #Microsoft or any other #BigTech product–is so 2015 and seem to me like a staged charade.

Second, the fact that other companies threatening our society due to #copyright and #privacy violations speculate about buying reveals that this is not about regulation but #whitewashing a brand and strategically combining tools to even better exploit the resource of human data.
