This weekend (10-14 april) is the Dutch National bee count, where citizens are encouraged to count bees, wasps and hoverflies in their garden or neighbourhood. Knowledge of bee population is important because 80% of edible crops and almost 90% of wild plants are pollinated by bees and other insects. In the Netherlands 34 bee species have already disappeared and half of the 360 species are endangered.This was my fourth time participating and this year we counted more wasps, hoverflies and bumblebees, but no other types of bees. I wonder if the drier weather was of influence
