Spring has sprung and we’re expecting no more frost. If gone ahead and moved all my succulents outside and gave them their first (light) watering. On the left the healthy ones, on the right those that got hit really hard over winter by root mealy bugs. I’ll have to deal with that once they’re all awake, but the hope is that regular watering and fresh air will already help.

Teddybear Cholla (Cylindropuntia bigelovii) stems detach easily and can take root forming a stand of clones. Desert woodrats collect these “cholla balls” to armor their nests, creating a prickly defense against predators.

My“Little Lita” Prickly Pear cactus (Tacinga inamoena ‘Marlon’s Dwarf’) that I got last summer dropped two of it's upper pads (the little green ball you see in the soil) so I just poked one in between two pothos plants to see what it does.

A few months later I seem to be getting a new cactus from it.

Plants, man...

Spiral galaxy 278O (the "o" is for ouchies) in the constellation Gemini.

Closeup photograph of the top of a cactus plant (possibly M. geminispina). The cactus has a spiral pattern that begins at the top of the plant and continues down the plant's side consisting of alternating green and white stripes that circle the plant. The green stripes are exposed green flesh while the white stripes are made up fuzzy white hairs. Amber cactus spines project from evenly spaced locations along each green spiral except at the very top where the cluster together and project toward the top center.

Another pot of boiling San Pedro ! This one from Ecuador.
Unlike the one prepared with fresh cactus that I shared earlier, this one is made from dried powder.
Unfortunately, I wasn't there to follow the whole process, and I don't know the details.
