I'm leaning towards #bobbinLace here...?
If true, it's probably a full day per cross motif.

Cardinal Filipe Neri António Sebastião do Rosário Ferrão.
OMG. There's element of tape-lace in it, which could be either bobbin lace or crochet (aka Bruges lace). Also, the pixel-art looking lace could be filet crochet again.
So, different crochet techniques? Which would point to hand-made...
If it is hand-made, we're looking at *hundreds* of hours here O.O
Cardinal Paulo Cezar Costa.
Could this be bobbin lace?
It is possible to machine-produce some types of bobbin lace, but this looks so elaborate, I'm kinda leaning towards hand-made.
If it's hand-made bobbin lace, I'd say half a day or a full day per oval motif?
#WIPWednesday is all about our #IpswichLace event this coming Saturday!
Event details: https://nelg.us/Weaving-threads-of-lace-history
The museum will let me sell my Ipswich lace jewelry (necklaces and pins) so I'm doing the final details. I am also bringing Karen Thompson's books for her if you wanted to see them before buying. They are hard to find in person.
#GatherFiberSymposium has had so many great events this month that I absolutely could not keep up with them.
Ah ha!
Here's the technique for inserting a bead in the middle of the lace ground (instead of a pin) or at an edge (between pins). Good to know.
And here's the link to the very useful video by Louise West:

Good thing she uses blue thread on the lazy Susan, makes it easy to see.
You can use a column of beads instead of leafs or tallies, or anywhere you like where you can attach the loop through the beads to another bit in your lace. Like this kind of zigzag design element here.
So pretty! Bobbin lace with beads. Presumably you string the beads on the thread first before winding them on bobbins, but what do I know...
Lovely motif
Take a look! https://pin.it/76lkXOvQI
For #WIPWednesday I have so much demonstration lace under way for #Rev250 that I needed to make myself another pin box. Yes, I have about 5 pin boxes already, but for different sized pins. I need them all...
These are Altoids boxes dressed up for events. All #IpswichLace related stuff.
I really want to buy a pillow/bolster for bobbin lace making, but they are awfully expensive. Shouldn't be too difficult to make myself but I don't think I have the needed materials. Must put my thinking hat on and decide what I need and where to get that from.
Edited to add hashtags
we went to the yearly lace exhibition in Göllersdorf today. This time lace from the czech Republic was the main theme. More on my blog in the next couple of weeks. #BobbinLace
I was at this #GatherFiberSymposium event yesterday, and we all yearned to be at the protest. But I will say that hanging with artists was really good for my soul. Artists are taking no shit.
Anyway: so many great events coming this month if you like textile arts. And our #IpswichLace event made the #Boston Globe today.
The #GatherFiberSymposium got noticed by the local media! We were psyched that they invited our lace group in to their month of fiber art celebrations. There are a ton of great events going on.
More details from The Boston Globe (or search archive.youknow for an unpaywalled version).

TIL: Dora Richter, a lacemaker, was a trans woman that wisely escaped Germany and fled to Czechoslovakia where she lived for many years making lace!
I missed it on #TransDayofVisibility because I don't go to Insta much, but Elena Kanagy-Loux has such amazing lace history knowledge. I am glad to know her story.

For #WIPWednesday I can finally show you a thing I did. It's done now, but we couldn't share the info before our lace competition.
This is #Motif1 of #RockportMA in fiber form.
The competition was a particular "red thread" to use. I went to Rockport one day and was struck by this famous red fishing shack, and that's how we got here.
I did not win this year, but I love these challenges. The other entries: https://nelg.us/page-1857737
The #MBTA red line was Chefs-kiss!
Got some new lace books at our lace retreat. It's increasingly important to hear from people who have had the actual books in their hands for these kinds of things now.
They are cute and small pieces in Rosaline, Duchesse, and Honiton.
@auris Oh, I like #MilaneseLace. It's so flexible and you can do such neat designs.
My first Milanese was this hummingbird. And then we did a colorful moon. It can be more interesting.
new bobbin lace class and we are doing milan lace. 2h of progress on the snake. Tbh it's not really my thing. I like airy, tulle lace and milan lace looks so rough. #BobbinLace
Heh. Just back from lace retreat. As librarian, my job is to haul the books. I was laughing at having 500 years of lace history in my trunk on the #EV board.
Someone described this as "tetris level" packing. I guess it is.
Lacemakers have transferable skills.
Today someone came to reddit asking for a Lace ID, which happens a lot.
I loved that it was identified by the #Catalan independence pin sitting nearby!
Protest happens in many ways. #BobbinLace
#WIPWednesday: I have continued to work on that reproduction lace. I think the size is right now, but I don't have a measurement of the original.
This is 90/2 linen thread, but the thread is slubby and I'm not keen on it. Would like a nicer thread and will try to find better ones at the upcoming lace retreat.
(Embroidered baby cap just for scale of cap size for reference. Not my work, donated to our lace group.)
