#Chiltern Railways has been named the operator for the first stage of East West Rail, set to launch later this year, connecting #Oxford and Milton Keynes. This new service will slash journey times, providing better access to jobs, education, and business opportunities. The project aims to drive economic growth in the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor, with East West Rail projected to generate £6.7 billion annually by 2050 and support 28,000 jobs in #Cambridge. The line will also feature a new station at #Winslow and improved services at #Bicester Village and #Bletchley. The development will enhance local economies, reduce road travel, and contribute to the regeneration of town centres. Future stages will extend the line to Bedford and #Cambridge, with plans for greener, hybrid battery-electric trains.

Today's & (it's important to note that we didn't find complete, correct answers to all of these, and in some cases we don't even know if there *is* a correct answer. It would be great to hear anybody's thoughts on any of these themes!):

1. D treated us to a trial run of his talk: 5 minutes it's a tough mark to hit, but he did it & I think it'll be a popular one.

2. Played with a game I got for my birthday after experiencing it on a maths stand at the Green Man Festival in the summer. Thought sceptically about some of the claims on the box including how many variations of the game were possible.

3. Some chat about books that are important in the history & development of maths. There are some 'obvious' ones, but are there examples that have been overlooked that might help to highlight diversity & improve representation in maths if we spoke about them more?

4. How many holes does a straw have? How about a T-shirt?

5. Looking forward to Big MathsJam (2 of us are going!)

6. What is the nᵗʰ term of a sequence that is the intersection of two arithmetic sequences? Can it be determined purely algebraically from the nᵗʰ terms of the two original sequences?

7. Really, really big knockout competitions, & ranking the participants.

8. B can't come to November's moved MathsJam as she's giving a talk down in that London. We could have a B&MK MathsJam outing, I suppose?!

It's nearing the end of June already! The good news is that means it's nearly time for this month's & ... This coming Tuesday (18th June) from 7pm at All Bar One near the Hub (about 20 minutes walk from the station)

The only requirements for attending are that you (1) are over the age of 18, and (2) like the sound of spending an evening in a pub chatting to other maths fans.

Details, map, contact, etc here: mathsjam.com/cities/bletchley/

And if Milton Keynes is a bit far for you, find your nearest MathsJam here: mathsjam.com/find-a-jam/

Two pieces of news which are pretty important if you want to stay involved with &

1. We've settled on a new venue for the Monthly MathsJams. A handful of us went out and tried a couple of places near the Hub in Central Milton Keynes, as we've been bouncing around a bit recently, struggling to find somewhere that worked well for everyone who wanted to attend. We've settled on *All Bar One*, near the Hub in Central Milton Keynes. It's around 15 minutes walk from the railway station and has plenty of parking and bike racks nearby. It's fairly quiet on a Tuesday night and serves food.

2. The current mailing list service is less secure than I'm comfortable with, so we're heading back to Google groups for now.
I believe you can join a Google group without having a Google account, but this requires me to add you manually: if you do not have a Google account (and do not want to make one) please get in touch privately and let me know which email address you'd like me to add. Otherwise, you can add yourself here: groups.google.com/g/bletchleym

3. (I know, I said 2 things...) We now have a WhatsApp group. Message me privately if you'd like to join. It's a bit more active than the mailing list has been, so worth joining if you use WhatsApp.

Thanks for reading and staying in touch!

December's &
@MathsJam will be *this coming Tuesday (12th December)* at the Ship Ashore in Willen, MK (maps.app.goo.gl/K8LwiVpTD8Ra6Y). There's plenty of free parking, and it shouldn't be too busy or loud.

It would be fantastic to see anyone there who has a generally positive disposition towards , whether you're local(ish) to Milton Keynes or just passing through.

No skills or qualifications are necessary; you just need to have a "Maths? Cool!" kinda attitude.

If you're not nearby and thinking "oh, man, why am I not nearby this cool maths thing?" then find your absolute localest right here: mathsjam.com/find-a-jam/
